I was at the range today shooting groups for the first time in atleast 5-6 weeks, to zero my new PST. My favorite targets to use are either the targets with 1" grids or the snipers hide 20 dot drill target. Even though its not meant for it, I usually use it to shoot groups, since .5 inch is always the golden standard I try to strive for.

Anyways, I ended up shooting 6 groups at it, and I was not happy. Other than 1 group, the rest just seemed so big and disappointing. I just couldn't understand how I did so bad. Well after going home, it turned out the average was around what my average always is .72 MOA! I couldn't believe it, those damn .5MOA dots in combination with 30 cal holes make groups look SO DAMN BIG until you actually measure them! Especially since I haven't used them in a while, to remember that.

Just thought it was funny, and wanted to see if anyone else had a similar experience!

P.S. I loved my new Vortex PST and the FFP is awsome and tracking is perfect. Now I just gotta get used to using mil's instead of moa

I gave up shooting groups a long time ago and subscribe to Frank's concept of one shot per target. That being said I do enjoy putting them together at the end of a shoot to see what my "group" is. To aid in this I use 3/8" diamonds at 100 yards and run a vertical line through them to 1" above the dot and then drop a horizontal line on it. This allows me to cut out each target and "pin it" to a fresh single target and plot each shot. After 20 holes are plotted you have a pretty good idea what your "group" is. I have been well pleased with the measurements when all of them are touching the diamond even though they may look "off" with the paper in your hands.

    Cheers,
