I removed the Timney 510 trigger out of my 700 today to put it in another rifle. The trigger worked fine in the first rifle, but this new rifle it won't hold the firing pin back when I cycle the bolt. Both rifles are Remington 700's. Does anyone know how to adjust these triggers? I can't find anything online, and really don't want to send it back to Timney and pay them to fix it. I've adjusted my factory rem triggers before with great success, so I know I can do it safely.

Re: Damn Timney trigger

So your saying you can't cock the rifle with the Timney installed?

If that is the case, you should increase the amount of sear engagement and retry.

Re: Damn Timney trigger

Before you change any settings, are you having issues with the barreled action outside of the stock? Many times some inletting must be done, especially in wood stocks. Also the shoe of the timney is wide and can get hung up on the trigger guard.

Yup, haven't even put it in the stock yet.

Correct. Are the Timney triggers setup the same as Remington?

Sear on the rear, trigger pull on front-bottom, overtravel on front-top

Seriously!!!!!

I do pretty much all my trigger setting outside of the stock!

Sounds like a sear engagement issue.

Re: Damn Timney trigger

Can't promise this'll help, but maybe it'll give you some ideas... Remington Trigger Adjustments
And sleeping on things like this helps often enough. As you generally figure out the problem about 2 minutes before you were gonna' drift off.
That & or have a knowledgeable friend take a look at things fresh. See if he can perhaps figure it out sans any info & or theories from you. If not, then put your heads together.

Good luck, I can feel your frustration.

Re: Damn Timney trigger

Sear adjustment is on the rear of the trigger. The retaining nut is 1/4" I believe. That will fix your issue. If you lighten the trigger weight too much that can also cause the same issue. That adjument is the lower on the front and I believe the locking nut is 5/16". I always loctite mine when finished adjusting. Good luck. Having it in the stock makes no difference.

Yup, have two timneys and I have worked with others, on a 700 the stock has nothing to do with how the trigger works.
