Dan Wesson Discretion 9mm 5.7" barrel version......

    What say you??

That model doesn’t appeal to me personally, but I have shot a DW Specialist 9mm and had to convince myself several times that I don’t NEED it, but still want one for some reason. I also think the 1911/2011 platform is the best suppressor host there is, so if that model floats your boat and that’s what you’re wanting then I’d say go for it.

That specific one is a tad long on the barrel but it caught my attention. Just wasn't sure what the masses thought of Dan Wesson in the big scheme of things.

Ill agree the Discretion is not my cup of tea but I love me some DW 1911s. Ive got the PM-9 and the thing runs like a top and probably my favorite handgun to shoot. Between my group of friends we've got 5 or 6 variations of the DW and none disappoint. Fit and finish is excellent on the DW and its filled with all tool steel internals. I feel it's one of the top production 1911's going.

I will own a DW someday. All of the ones I have shot were great running pistols and very accurate.

I particularly like my friend Paul's in 10mm blasting some full power loads at clays stuck in the dirt of the berm at 25 yds. Impacts were easy to get with that pistol.

I own a half dozen Colt Custom Shop 1911s (collectability). The fit and finish of my DW Specialist is objectively better than four of those six CS Colts. That doesn't mean it shoots better, there is just less slop in places that make you give dirty looks when pay $1,500 - $1,800 for a pistol with hand-fitted parts.

I collect Colts, but I shoot my DW. I'm not sure you can do better without going into a full custom.

I got a S&W Performance Center .45 1911 5" love the way it shoots. Add to that a S&W PC .45 wheel gun that runs awesome, almost makes you want to throw away any other pistol.

Thanks for all the replies fellas. Keep them coming !!

I can't comment on your 9 but I love my PM-45. The manufacturing tolerances feel very close, to the point that the first few teardowns to clean it were a bit challenging. The barrel and the bushing lock up tightly and I like the factory trigger. If I shoot a bad group I know it's not the gun's fault. It's quickly become one of my favorites and I think the price I paid was more than justified.

I like it so much that I almost bought the lookalike PM-9. If the Discretion 9 you're lusting after is anything like mine I'm sure you'll love it.

Yeah DW’s are awesome, without a doubt the best out of the box 1911’s you can get and you’re not giving up much compared to customs that cost twice as much.

I have two DW Specialists. One in .45 and other in 9, both shoot great.

This one started out as a dw Valor 9mm commander, it got wrenched on....Ed brown 38super hard fit barrel, egw oversized bushing, flat topped, ball end cuts on flat top and slide nose, 40lpi rear serrations, and rd carry butt. Bead blast finish with 220 grit blast on flat top and rear serrations. Finished off with old school Herrett thin cocobolos.
