I'm looking at the 12" rail to replace the Houge tube forend on my RR Predator Pursuit. What is the difference between the Omega and the Lite and will either fit my RR? Are they both "oval" Will it fit up against the gas block?

Re: DANIEL DEFENCE help needed!!!

The Omega rail replaces std handguards and requires the presence of the delta ring assembly and std barrel nut. The AR Lite rail requires the barrel to be removed and reinstalled with the backplate installed behind the special barrel nut that also requires a special tool for installation in conjunction with a torque wrench. To do it right it helps to have the right size ball-end hex driver for a small torque wrench to get the rail attach screws set evenly so the barrel will be centered. Getting the rail aligned takes some iterative work while sighting down the receiver. The Brownells alignment jig to acomplish this task is only for the M4 rails since when it's installed it won't allow the rail to move toward the receiver as the attach screws are torqued down. The 12" lenght of both clears the back of a gas block.

Re: DANIEL DEFENCE help needed!!!

If you are looking for a rail that is continuous with your upper, the Lite Rail is great. The Lite rail does require the barrel be removed...no big deal. You don't need a torque wrench to install it...just a hex wrench and some patience....the 6 hex screws are a bit tedious to tighten because of the lack of clearance with the upper. To be honest I prefer the LaRue rail in this regard...much easier to install. But the Daniel rail is continuous with the upper rail...very nice.

To install the DD Lite rail you are going to have to remove your barrel, gas tube, and gas block. Then the barrel nut goes on the barrel and you can reinstall the gas assembly. The rail attachment plate will go over a noveske lo pro gas block but the barrel nut wont.

The instructions say you need to torque the barrel nut 55-75 ft lbs. You will need a torque wrench as well as the super special Daniel Defense lite rail barrel nut installation tool. Basically a modified spanner but the regular AR tools will not work.

+1 for there not being alot of clearance to tighten the allen heads to attach the rail assembly. It is a continuous rail but If I had it to do over again...maybe troy industries
