Darwin lives, start the morning with a laugh.

At a lecture on Venomous Snake Bite, the speaker gave a few stats. One question was "What laboratory value is consistantly out of normal range, after a venomous bite?" "The only lab result that was consistantly out of normal range was an "elevated Blood Alcohol level.".
"Any other observations consistantly involved in Venomous snake bite?" "They were most often between the Age of 16-25, Male and often wearing black jeans and T-shirt."
2 years before I retired, our ER treated 17 cases of Rabies bites (18 bites, 17 positive, including a stray cat, a javelina attack, and a fox), and 13 cases of Rattle Snake envenomations. In one summer. Drought, coupled with watering lawns, and pools, brought them into closer contact with people.

As we always say “another day of proving Darwin wrong” before a shift......

We have had some crazy bites over the years. Not sure how many bottles of Cro-Fab we have in stock and a guy last year got 14 total iirc.
12k a bottle........

Closer to dead when he got here than I like to see.

Ptt, pt, fibrinogen, plts in that order for crotalidae species.

Yep. Also CK levels, as it is a histotoxin as well as a hemotoxin.

Last week we had a female police officer near here that got bitten by a large timber rattler on her calf muscle. She took 16.

17 positive rabies in one season, thats incredible. Its been 5 years since I even heard of one around here and it was jsut a 'possible', never heard how it turned out. You'd think people would have enough sense to see the animal is acting odd and back away. But then...Darwin lives. ?

Btdt except with a gazetteer. Had to ease by a parked rd grader on a dirt rd angled towards a 10ft deep ditch on the side. I was driving a then new forester. Started sliding towards the ditch hit the traction control off button, gave it some clutch and let it eat in 3rd?. It would have been embarrassing AF.
