Day Packs?

I'm looking for a tactical-like day pack good for carrying supplies/stuff in the field or on a hunting trip. Perhaps a backback to wear in public too. I don't want it to scream military, but something that's durable, practical, portable and would make a good shooting rest. I was looking at the 5.11 rush 24 packs. Any experience? My price range is around $100.

Thanks,
Ethan

427, that pack is exactly what I've been looking for to keep in the truck. I like the zipper that opens the pack all the way up and the PALS on the inside. Thanks for the lead.

Re: Day Packs?

Check your local craigslist for "dana design" packs. They made some awesome day packs.

Basically you get Mystery Ranch design and quality at a bargain price. Dana Design was Dana Gleason's company prior to forming Mystery Ranch. He sold out to K2 and K2 to Kelty, whom has dropped all his old designs. He's building enhanced versions of his old designs and some new designs with Mystery Ranch, but the old Dana Design stuff is awesome kit.

I have 2 of his expedition packs for the same reasons you stated - civie look, bombproof materials and construction, great functional design.

Here is an example:

Re: Day Packs?

If your gonna go with a 5.11 , I would first look at camelbak as they have more civilian looking packs as well as military. IMO i didnt care for the 5.11 I felt it was cheaply made.but the are good reviews on it.

Yep.

Although depending on who you're trying to look gray around, it may or may not matter. Most people are sheep and don't pay attention to jack when it comes to their surroundings. I just got back from an eight day trip and when I was leaving, I bumped into a lady in the baggage check line at TPA with my (obvious) rifle case. She asked if they were golf clubs.

Re: Day Packs?

Camelback offers several Day Packs that will fit your price range. Arcteryx are tough to beat, little higher priced, well worth it.

Suggest to go to a outdoor gear store and try them on, a pack that fits you won't necessarily fit me. Average weight hauled in my day pack is around 15-20lbs w/4 liters of water. Load the pack up with stuff/weight off the shelf to see how it rides. Mess with all the adjustments. If it fits you well, all the weight should be on your hips not your back. I would not buy one w/o trying it.
