Re: DBM for 5R 308
The chassis stocks have a few advantages.
1. You can get them in single feed, or ready to accept magazines.
2. Possible to just drop your barreled action into one, torque it down, and go shoot it. However, there may be some fine tuning required in order to get proper fit and feeding from the mags.
3. If they use standard AR15 pistol grip, you can change out the grip for what fits you best.
4. Most come set up with ability to easily add rail sections, so adding other goodies is easy if needed (i.e. mount lights, mount other sights, mount lasers or NV, etc...)
5. Many offer folding stock option, if that is desired.
6. No need to bed the action. Proper mounting of barrelled action in a quality chassis can be just as stable and accurate as bedding.
7. Potential to quickly change from your current stock to a new chassis, with no down time for shipping and install of DBM.
8. Overall, easier and cheaper to customize (IMHO, YMMV).
You really should try out a few dirrerent fiberglass and chassis stocks before you buy. At least hold the one(s) you are interested in buying in your hands and see how it feels. Talk to some owners to see what they like and don't like about each. Shooting one would be even better but not always possible. Once I picked up a rifle wirh a McMillan A5 stock I was in love. Ended up buying a rifle with a McMillan A4 stock and have really enjoyed shooting it, even placed in the upper levels at a few matches. Just received a McRee's Precision chassis stock and think I am going to love it. So many stocks...so little time...
.
Best of luck in your search...remember, shooting is all about the hunt, not the destination
