DBM question

Re: DBM question

The factory Remington detachable magazines came in a Hs Precision stock and fit flush. They only hold three rounds though. That is the only one I know of that fits flush.

The magnum mags only hold 3. The non-magnum mags hold 4.

edit to add: the .223 mags hold 5.

Re: DBM question

The HS Precision mags have about 1/2" drop below the stock, not quite flush. They also only hold 4 (or 3 magnum) except the .223 which holds 5.

Now that I think back on it, Remington never offered a DBM in .223.

Re: DBM question

Wound up being joined at the range by some local area SWAT guys once. They were shooting R700 PSS with Remington DBM and Leupold scopes. They all drooled over my 6.5x284 with NF and Badger DBM. What they had to say about the R700 DBM was not positive. Multiple jamming issues due to magazine issues.
You could buy an AI AE MKII. The 5 round mags are very near flush on them.

Poor or improper maintenance is the cause of the failures, not magazine issues. I have Remington DBMs in .300 WM, 7mm-08, and .308 and have been running them for years. I've never had issues with them because I know how to keep them properly fit to the rifle. I've had several PD armorers email me on how to fix their problems and most of the time it's because they had bedded the rifle which changed the distance from the bottom metal to the receiver. Other times it was because the slots in the bottom metal was worn or bent so that the mag wouldn't latch snugly against the bottom metal. Not design issues, but maintenance issues.

Re: DBM question

I've read somewhere that the Remington version doesn't use a feed ramp (or something like that) so to retrofit one the receiver has to be modded. Not where I want to go.

I've been thinking about it since last hunting season when I watched a buddy pull the mag from his A bolt before climbing out of a tree. I'd never really thought a DBM made a lot of sense for a hunting rifle but at that moment it made sense and still does. Less than 5 is good too, hell in my experience a Ruger #1 holds enough ammo for 9 out of 10 kills, I'm just thinking wondering if there is anything out there.

I don't believe that is the case. Everything looked the same on my PSS as my 5R.

This is the HS Precision detachable mag installed in one of their rifles. It is probably as close as you'll find to what you want. It'll fit into a Remington BDL stock with no modifications.

Re: DBM question

I have a friend who is using the HS system and seems to like it for hunting. I always liked the Browning A-Bolt. It had a magazine but you would have to work really hard to ever lose it since it clipped to the inside of a drop down floor plate.
But you'll never find anything like that for a R700.
