Would bead blasting get rid of the "jeweled" finish on my 5R Milspec's bolt? Would like to have the bolt match the rest of the gun.

Just personal preference, but I'm not all that thrilled with this one piece of bling on my rifle.

Re: De-pimp my bolt

Cycle it a few thousand times and the jeweling hardly becomes noticeable.

Jeweling actually has a purpose. It holds lubrication and reduces surface contact on another surface, making things run smoother.

Re: De-pimp my bolt

I know what you mean I HATE the jeweling on a bolt. I have one that Im going to use for my M40a1 build and I want it gone. I also think that if you put it on a lathe and use sandpaper might also do the trick. I havent tried it yet though need to get a mandrel for the bolt. Im not sure what the reason for the jeweling is besides that its decorative and I dont want it on my bolt. Thats why I try and get the older R700 actions.

Re: De-pimp my bolt

If you have access to a media blaster, I bead blasted my bolt to match the barrel. I agree, the jeweling is ugly, looks too... old fashioned to me... to each is own though

I hate the look of the jeweled bolts as well, but maybe its just me, but they do feel way smoother than a standard black bolt. My dad has a Rem. ADL who's bolt feels like smooth butter compared to my buddies SPS tactical bolt

You can remove the jeweling with a bead blaster. I leave the jeweling and dip em in the bluing tank, then cerakote the shroud and handle military black.
