Rifle Scopes Dead scope?

Ok guys I need some opinions on what kills a scope. Recently I had a sling pin break at match, I carry my rifle muzzle down and the muzzle hit the gravel road and then landed on top of the turrets (14lb rifle and all the weight landed on the scope). The optics appeared to survived, no distortions or anything funny with the glass and it seemed to take the adjustments as I moved back from 500yards to 1000. The groups were larger than normal and some weird flyers. I thought I might be ok until I dialed back down for a 200yard shot and was almost a mil high. Im gonna hold off on the make and model of the scope first until I can get some feedback without putting a brand in anyones head. You can see the sunshade is bent down and the threads are locked, cannot get it to move, but the objective tube itself does not appear to be damaged and the optical image is the same as before.

The scope rides on a Surgeon RSR .243 built by Nathan at straightshot and is a 1/2moa rifle. Until it fell the rifle was extremely consistent and meets all my expectations, Nathan did a fabulous job. I shot a quick three shot group that is under 1/2" and then dialed to rezero and it appeared everything was fine. I plumbed a line out at 100yards and marked the target every 3.6" to denote 1mil and ran up to 10 mils. I fired a three shot group at each mil mark one shot at at a time, randomly dialing in elevation until I had three shots at each adjustment. Prior to shooting I locked the rifle into a rest and watched the reticle track, everything seemed smooth, reticle movement stopped at 13.5 mils and the knob only turned 1 more click before it was maxed as well. The groups at 1 and 2 mils were exactly what I have always gotten out of the rifle, I thought there were pretty damn good for dialing all over the place between shots. Then it got a bit out of hand, groups opened up to 1-1 1/2" and showed vertical and horizontal movement. By the time it got to 5mils of adjustment it had 5.5 mils of movement but at 10mils it still showed about 10.5 of movement. I completed the same basic test (2,4,6,8,10mils) when everything was brand new and it tracked perfectly giving me 5 groups under 1/2moa (I know they are three shot groups, please dont bust my balls on it). The rifle has less than 200 rounds through it and the scope has been dialed alot but nothing I would expect to be worn out by any means.

And to answer before asked the sweet azz rebooks in the back are mine and the beautiful vinyl floor will be coming up soon, gotta love a fixer-upper.

Target backer was not tall enough for 10mils so I had to use the next row of targets.

Re: Dead scope?

Nope, crown was protected by a muzzle brake, scratched the cerakote a little but the crown was untouched. Whats maddening is to see the normal size groups at 1 and 2 mils and then jumping to huge groups for the remainder.

Re: Dead scope?

Yep its a falcon. Im not knocking it at all after the fall it took. I was pretty pleased it survived at all, it really is a shit feeling to feel it fall and in the milsecond know there is not shit you can do about it.

Re: Dead scope?

I hear ya about money getting tossed away like that, but toss that in the trash and spend some cash on some nice glass for that Surgeon!
