Deal Heads-Up Sig Zulu5 Binos 50% off

Normally $480 and now $240 for a decent pair of 10x42 truck Bino's? I'd pull the trigger in a heartbeat if I could. My 8x40 Steiner's (the original Predator) that ride with me daily could use replaced. The extra magnification would be nice. Great find.

a guy known here awhile ago as riverguide said something about 7 being the best
i dont know but bigger may not be better for a good beatter bino.
i am in the market for sure and this time around i want a quality pair

Using 10x binos requires stabilizing them on a hard surface, be it the ground, truck, fence, etc, they're just not as good freehanding. It's the shake that makes that much magnification less than ideal. With these having a 42mm obj lens and sitting at 24.5oz, that's in the range you'd want them in that type of environment anyhow rather than packing them cross country, the truck binos mentioned above is 100% where these would be good, as well as spotting critters off the back porch or whatnot.

Field binos for glassing wide areas, I prefer 8x32 range for compactness, wider FOV, and less weight.

I love my 8x30 Steiner's, don't get me wrong. They just bounce around in the truck and during hunting season bare the brunt of the shitty weather days (many) and come with me in the Timber where they shine. They'll always have a place on my dash or in my pack. Buddy n I bought some Zeiss 10x40's not to long ago and for a $800 dollar bill are the shit. I mean crystal fucking clear and I highly recommend them if you're not going to go upper upper shelf.

You're absolutely right though. More power restricts your FOV and lessens light to the exit pupil. There's a formula but if I remember right the human eye can only appreciate something like an exit pupil of 2.5. Too lazy to look it up, but the info's out there. These Bino's Tucker found would fit the bill for my usage as my everyday go to bounce around the truck Nocks. I don't think you could go wrong with them for what they are, but anyone will tell ya, until you get to bout $1,000 dollar bill worth of glass you're cheating yourself. NOTHING like good glass !!! ;)

5mm... divide objective diameter by magnification. That equals exit pupil diameter. As we age our iris ages as well, and cannot open as wide as when young, but 5mm is a good estimate for the max useful exit pupil.

While on this topic, wear sunglasses whenever possible- especially if you have light colored eyed. They protect your eyes from uv rays and keep them young longer.

Mike,
I have Leicas in both 10x42 and 8x32 and the 10x binos get left at home.

The 10x pair belonged to my dad and he always commented how my 8x seemed clearer and easier to hold still.
I tried to talk him into the 8x when he purchased his, but he always believed more was better. I think he was a closet Texan...

The only way I'll use the 10x is of I have a steady place to rest them. Otherwise they transmit too much shake.

1J04, I have those same Zeiss binos, completely agree they're the nicest binos I've ever laid hands on for under $1k. They're the only 10x I haul into the hills, their performance is worth the weight and size.

A good way to research binos is through birdwatching sites, those guys are uber glass snobs when it comes to binos. Just be wary of biased reviews, like always.

100% AGREE MY FRIEND !!! And I actually did a helluva lotta research, including bird watching sites where on this one they had a great video, it's on YouTube I believe as well. Ya, for under a "K" these are hands down thee best glass I've ever looked through. I was able to look through a set before purchasing and was IMMEDIATELY SOLD. They balance nicely, the weight is ZERO issue, and they're clear. Crystal clear. I park behind my glass for extended periods of time trying to pick out the slightest movement in the shit. I'll concede 10x is quirkier to stabilize, but clean 10x is more than worth it,

Glasses are about the hunt.... and if you also wear glasses....

In New Zealand and you are hiking in and out... longest shot is 75 yards..... light weight and waterproof are the 2 requirements....

Hunting for Antelope in Wyoming- its from a car.... 10X are good to go.... Find your herd... then figure a way to stalk up to them....

with practice and correct body position, you can stabilize larger glasses with no issues.

If you wear glasses, will these binos work with your glasses?

SIG ZULU5s showed up today here from NH. Decent glass for a good price and I didn't deal with schlockmeister Optics Planet. Being 10x they are a bit "bouncy," but technique will iron most of that out, as noted. Once again, inspirationally, the Hide lightens my wallet a little.
