I purchased a whidden f/l bushing die in 28 nosler. When attempting to set the die up to bump the shoulder it expanded the shoulder .008" regardless of the die position. I haven't sent the dies back but I did purchase a Redding die and was able to salvage my once fired bass
I am disappointed by the quality control at whidden allowing this defective die to be shipped.

Expanded the shoulder? As in pushed headspace forward by 0.008?

Did you continue tightening the die down until it started bumping the shoulder, or were you prevented from doing so by excessive cam-over on the reloading press?

Your description does not quite give enough clarity to confirm that something was actually wrong with the die.

Yeah, "Your description does not quite give enough clarity" If it is over bumping the shoulder it prob user error. I ruined the first 2 pieces of brass I ran because I set it up like a regular die. The directions on the second page tell you how to set it up. Thread until it touches the shell holder and then back off a quarter turn.

These types of posts tell me two things only -

1. Yes, it is a failable word and occasionally products escape QC. But with a company like Whidden, RARE and Unlikely.
2. The original poster is unaware of inexperienced in what he is doing. So to salve his tender conscious, he blames the tools and not the craftsman.

Poor form.

If you look at my first reply, I need to wonder if he is “using” the expander, but not lubing the inside the expander can “pull” soft brass like some Hornady to measure longer on “some” types of bump gauges.

Long story short, the .008 expansion can me both partly true and a Measurement issue
