This is my first Defiance and I just bought it used. The feed ramp area on the action is squared, and I'm told this is called a Guardian cut. How does this cit get modifies to accept longer rounds? Or is it supposed to work as been is?

I have Manners mini chassis and the action works well with AICS magazines that still have the binder plate installed. However, as we all know, the plate restricts COAL. When I use any brand mag without the binder plates and load long, the tips of the bullets get hung under the ledge on the feed ramp and will not pop up from the mag. First round feeds fine, but not the rest.

Whats the fix? notch? or mill some off the entire edge? I called Defiance and was told that the Guardian cut is for BDL bottom metal. However, this info conflicts with what others have told me. I must have talked to the wrong person.

it is a mag. bolt face. 6.5 saum

I read the article, but I'm not sure that info would apply to the deviant. My action looks super thick in that area, and it seeks well away from the lug. Has anyone actually seen a Defiance action fail due to this modification?? Defiance also informed me, that making this small notch would not void warranty and it was common practice.

I have read and searched quite a bit on the subject and have never come across anything regarding a Defiance action failing as a result. They are a bit beefier and better made than mass produced Rem700 actions obviously.
Maybe @DAVETOOLEY or some of the others with an extensive level of knowledge on the subject will chime in.

At any rate, thanks for the response. Its good to different views on things l, before I go to grinding on an action. One part of me wants to think, that there has to be some drawback to this modification. If not, why wouldnt Defiance simply manufacture them all with a notch. Instead of the end user having to disturb the ION coating to do it themselves.

That's a good question and seems like I've seen some GAP builds that the same mod was performed by GAP but could be misremembering that.
Regarding Defiance just offering them notched I think the correct answer would lie in the way the receiver is speced out when ordered and would most likely be an AW cut to allow longer COAL.
In my Kelbly Atlas I can run all the way out to 2.965" in Alpha mags without any hang ups on the ramp but they are made with the AW magwell cut.
