IMHO, it's not racism... they're against that.
It's paternalism. Which is even worse! Because it assumes that they, as caring progressive-minded liberals, know more about what is good for others and are the only ones smart enough to take care of their inferiors.
In antebellum days, it was widely-believed that people of color were inferior... that they were happy working for 'white people' and that eventually, exposed to their paternalistic overseers, they would learn enough to be able to function on their own...
Post Civil War, remember the whole concept of the United States Foreign Policy and power projection as a protector of "Our Little Brown Brothers?" It was a political term... a badge of honor that we were helping our little brown brothers. It was not racism... it was paternalism.
Native American policy? Paternalistic... put them into reservations and assimilate, assimilate, assimilate. Put them in Western clothes. Ban languages. Force integration because the 'know-betters' in government and the 19th century versions of NGO's... knew better.
We aren't saddled with blatant racism as a nation. Sure, there are a few David Duke and Clayton Bigsby types... And they are on all sides... Card-carrying Democrats don't have a monopoly on racism. Everyone has that potential... it's built into our genome. But in the last 50 years, the nation has come a long, long, long way to putting 'pure racism' behind us.
What has taken over is the do-gooder concept of paternalism. A self-righteous and certain belief (fueled by snowflake upbringings, elite college educations and liberal ideas that 'we can fix anything with another law) that "We are better than you and if you were smart, you would listen to us and be happier if you let us control your lives."
Look at how it manifests itself in everyday life:
We are stewards of the planet... You are ruining it.
You can't have (insert Guns, motorcycles, fast cars, sharp thing) because you will hurt yourselves.
We must determine what you can read, what jokes you can hear, what you may think. If we don't like it, you can't be exposed to it.
You aren't responsible with your money and earnings. We're going to take it and parse it back to you in a responsible way.
We went to Harvard and you were too ignorant to get in. We are, therefore, the rightful stewards of you stupid people.
I can go on.....
Where does this manifest itself? Where does the 'paternalistic' rubber hit the road? In socialism, liberalism, communism, progressivism... it's all the same thing. And it's all driven by an unbelievably narcissistic and mentally monstrous belief that 'we are your superiors.'
THAT is what is wrong with what these people are pushing on America. They want a land that guarantees equal outcomes. The founding fathers wanted a land that will thrive on equal Opportunity.
Outcomes... well that is up to the individual. Remember the term "Rugged individualist?" A total anathema to the paternalist... And looking at it as racism... with greatest respect to the OP... is simply a distraction. Let's call it what it is. Far more insidious than mere misguided racism.
Well, pardon my rant...
