Hello all, this is my first post on SH, and already got a question....

I was wondering what detachable mag box you fellas have been using on your 338 Norma Mag. I was planning on using the 338 LM box from wyatts which allows you to seat a bullet 3.790 coal to the tip. I plan on shooting 300 Berger OTM mostly and some 250 OTM. Would I ever need to seat a bullet over 3.700? Which is what their standard long action mag box is for like a 300 WM.

In my build I wi be using a defiance action so the slight receiver mods of the 338 LM box would not be an issue.

Thanks in advance.
Sid

Re: Detachable Mag Box- 338 NM

I am not sure what reamer my smith is going to use. He actually didnt have one for the Norma and ordered one from PTG. I guess I assumed it would be a "normal" length throat, meaning 3.600 with a 300 sierra, since that is what the cartridge was based off, correct? Or has there been alot of throating variations already woth this round.

Thanks for the reply.

To my knowledge PTG makes two standard throats for this caliber, one for the 250's and another for the 300's.

The throat on my reamer is actually shorter than the one for the 250's as I throat all my chambers out to fit the particular bullet the customer wants to shoot.
