Gunsmithing Devcon on a wood stock?

Will Devcon work ok to bed a wood stock? Is there a better choice for a wood stock? Thanks.

I have a devcon bedded in a wood stocked 30-06 since 1990. Bedding wood stocks was a solution to a real problem when the wood got wet/humidity. Came out of the benchrest, Vietnam era competition shooters and hardcore hunters back then. That is why we used it, the only other option back then was acraglass. The devcon was grey in color so you had to use a marker or paint or stain to make it look nice.

As long as there is no trace of oils or solvents in the wood, you will be just fine. Devcon is a great product as is Marine Tex. Both stick to wood and a lot of other materials as long as there's no slippery stuff on it.

Prefer Devcon over Marine Tex. Brownells makes die (black or brown) that helps match it to wood. Also has atomized steel to mix into it to make it stronger. Great stuff.

What if there is trace of oil in the wood? What do you recommend? Should you use a different product, or the use of a product to remove oils (pulling it out) from the wood?

Lightly sand the are to be bedded. Drill a few shallow holes in it then rub it down with rubbing or denatured alcohol and bed away.
