SO each night after homework is done, I come here for a quick look. 30 seconds or more for each page to load, then sometimes a minute or more for a reply post to load.
Is this the due to 4855 members trying to do the same thing after dinner each night, or did the site really go to dial up servers? I'll have to see how long it takes a new thread to go through after I hit Submit...

Re: Dial Up Servers now?

It's really the high traffic,

We are still in the process of getting rid of UBB, the software really just can't handle the traffic during high volume hours. UBB is so far behind the curve the software is actually behind by several years, and thus it bottle necks during dinner when everyone is on.

Yes, you have thousands of people accessing and writing the board at the same time.

We finally got the import / export to work, we had a team of people working the problem, as vBulletin to UBB is a pain in the ass. Once we change the board, we'll be able to modernize the process to access the traffic and this should fix the slow down issue during the early evening.

Basically we have been throwing servers at the problem (we are up to 6) and still UBB just doesn't handle it correctly as it's still living in 2010.

Once the import is finished we are only about 2 hours from changing over to the new site... we hope, this fixes a lot of the problems, that is the goal.

Great news Frank. I think I will post 1,000 .gifs in Maggie's Drawers in your honor.

Ya, ETA was January 1st... but I think we missed that date.

It's going as fast as we can go, I could always scrape all the user data, all the post data and start the site fresh, that would get it up and running faster, but instead we opted to save everything and convert the data from UBB to vBulletin. Therein lies the problem, converting a board this big is an issue, and even vBulletin's Import software can't handle it right, it only took 3 different people to damage control the issue. Believe it or not this board is quite large and moving that much data successfully it a bit of a chore.

Got ya...time from Submit was about two minutes
It'll be good to see faster movement. I kinda figured it was a software/server/volume issue. Just made that Ah FINALLY, DONE with chemistry and Immunology, lets see what's up on the hide...rackinfrackingmuckin just adding to the frustration of online chem homeowork, that stuff will make ya crazy!

You're going to love vBulletin, it's far easier to manage in my opinion.

I still have a UBB License but the software is so old and has so many holes (My version that is). I purchased vBulletin and never looked back.

TapaTalk app on i-phone works beautifully with vBulletin as well. It's the defacto forum software for I-phones.

That is the plan, we were crushing the Impex software to transfer the data, and just got it sorted out.

I am hoping the vBulletin Site goes live this week...
