A few months back I ordered myself new prefit barrel and new receiver from XYZ company and it shows up at my FFL all set to drop in my chassis.

This week I just ordered a new receiver and prefit barrel for my buddy from a different company and it didn't come put together ready to go?

I never emailed either company and asked that they set the barrel on the receiver. I just assumed based off my first experience this is how it was done. I mean for me that's why I ordered both parts from the same company.

Did I not do something right by asking that they set/install the barrel?

My buddy is tapped money wise and I feel bad. Thought we would be putting the rest of his rifle together tonight and he would be shooting it this weekend. I can help with a fair amount of stuff but don't have the tools to tackle this project.

Feel like I may have fucked up on this one? Not really sure.

Any help/insight here? Just thought I'd ask here for some of your experiences.

I emailed the company tonight.

If the company sells actions and pre-fits separately, they have no idea If the action you bought is going with that barrel or not. Unless you tell them.

Also, any company that sells pre-fits is going to assume the end user has the tools to install the barrel.

Does the barrel use a nut to lock in headspace? If so you can use a sized piece of brass to set the headspace. Then use a hammer and punch to lock the barrel nut in place.

What pattern of rifle, I could probably lend you an action wrench if you cover shipping.

I’ve had similar incidents over the years and it’s very frustrating. Just remember “no good deed goes unpunished”. If he’s your buddy and in a tight spot just getter done. If you have to pay then pay. If you can do it yourself do it. Good friends are a valuable resource and worth more than a few bucks. The help they give often isn’t thought about until they’re gone. The fella willing to lend you the tools is a good example of how much easier life is with the help of friends. Just saying

Action+barrel assembled together is commonly called a barreled action from common sources.

Action and a pre fit are usually separate and assumed your going to put them together yourself.

Generally it’s pretty easy to put them together with an action wrench, barrel vise, torque wrench and possibly a barrel nut wrench and headspace gauge.

It all makes sense now. Guess, there's a learning curve to everything.

With a barrel vice and action wrench it’s a pretty easy install.
I believe it is too. Unfortunately, my buddy spent everything he has on this build at the moment. I offered to pick up a action wrench. He wasn't having it. Where just looking for some help getting him through. I run a newly acquired Impact and haven't bought a action wrench for mine, yet.

I was able to ask for some help on another FB group and got some.
