I just got in my sinclair primer pocket uniformer and made use of it on a about 150 new brass (308). I got tired of doing it and chamfering so I figured I would mix it up and seat some primers. Well I guess I must have uniformed them wrong somehow believe it or not. I thought it was idot proof, guess that makes me the idiot. Im just going by pressure it took to seat them. Some went in far too easy, some went in perfect, and some took wayyy to much force to seat. Is my brass wrecked? Is there any way too fix the pockets? Is it even safe to use? Im worried about the ones that seated too easily.

Oh sorry its Winchester brand new. Seems like I had to cut quite a bit and maybe I got the cutter tilted to where it cut into the side of the pocket (to create the easily seated ones). No idea why reaming them out would make it more difficult to seat.

How many have you uniformed? Keep those seperate from the ones you have not!
Then seat primers in about 10 of the virgin brass and see if those pockets seem okay.
If they all seat fine then you know its something your doing while uniforming.
What kind of primers! Wolf primers are larger than domestic primers and will take a little more force to seat.

The primers im using are Federal GM210M. Just tried seating some primers in some virgin brass. Most took a little effort, one took alot of effort and a couple went in fairly easily. So I guess maybe its part me and part the brass. Oh and the uniformed ones are all separate and clearly labeled.

Just tried seating some CCI BR2 primers in virgin brass and the ALL went in great. I wonder if the CCI's just fit better into winchester brass?

From what I have experienced CCI primers are slightly larger in diameter than Federal so fit snugger.

The Sinclair Uniformer is designed to just remove material from the bottom of the pocket. The uniforming process should not affect the tightness of the pocket. It sounds like forming differences in the brass you got.

Well that clears that up, thanks guys. So do you think it would be ok to fire the pieces that have the looser pockets? In any idea to relate to me how loose is too loose or that one of those developed skills over time?

If you feel zero seating pressure then they may well be too loose. IMHO, brand new brass should not be in the condition you have. You definitely do not want a primer blowing back into your bolt face. As suggested above, try some of the "larger" primers in the loose stuff.

You can cut the pockets too deep. The tool has an adjustment so don't just assume that it has been set to correct depth...check the cut with a micrometer. JMHO

These cutters will cut the primer pocket to a uniform depth and also square the bottom of the pocket in relationship to the case head. Uniformers are available in five sizes, one for large rifle, small rifle and/or small pistol, large pistol primer pockets, PPC/BR primer pockets, and BMG primer pockets.

I've got one for LR and one for SR and they're not adjustable.

I'm using the sinclair model and is non adjustable. I would really hope that they have it right which I assume they do. I think what happened was that I would take a piece of brass, press it on there, dump and repeat sometimes several times. I wasn't really sure how much to do it because it just kept on cutting and cutting. I think I must have been tilting the brass off center or more likely forcing it off center to keep the head level with the base of the cutter. I think that may be why I'm getting unevenness in the fit of the primers. I think it must have been a shadow making me think the head was off kilter with the cutter head.
