I don't think it's that complicated, as long as one sets their own viewpoint right back to where it always was. The world's too big to manage, even though some fools keep thinking that's possible.
There have always been 'different folks'; they just grew new ideas about entitlement, and there are folks who are cagey enough to think it's to their advantage to humor them. Hell, they could be right...
It doesn't bother me so much, mainly because I know that the folks who think like we all once did are going to end up dying right about around the same time as I do. Gonna die sometime, anyway, and when it happens, I don't think it's going to matter much to me after that anyway. Until then, I'm hacking it OK...
After that, it'll all just be another untidy paradox like all the other ones we're leaving for our descendants.
I don't feel too bad about that because I actually have faith that my descendants will be better at dealing with it than I have. That's always happened in the past, and when the world gets up and goes all Kaboom, I'll be long gone, anyway.
Not my problem...

PS If you read SyFy, this subject gets touched on in Haldemann's The Forever War...; and that dates back to 1974...
