Did you watch memorial for AZ shooting victims?

Re: Did you watch memorial for AZ shooting victims?

What can one make of such a tradgedy? Did you see the photo of Jared Lougheran?.....The guy looks like Uncle Fester on steroids....If he came in a resturant I was in I just leave immediatly.Or reach into my jacket and slip the safety of the Colt..spooky.

abc did a speel on what 15 seconds is .......as in what happens on the timeline during , after this horrific event.....sorta put it all in perspective.......it takes so very long to build a good positive thing/life or presence here on earth.....but so very quick to do evil and make it all go away........so all very tearful .

Re: Did you watch memorial for AZ shooting victims?

It saddens me for the victims and their families, It had more of an appearance of a high school pep rally than a memorial service, in my opinion.

Maybe I'm a little backwards being from the South as I've never experienced in that manner, that what was called a memorial service last night.

I know that some of them were trying to whistle in the dark and gather courage, but there was something about it, at least at the beginning, that almost made me feel like some folks thought that it was the smallest bit of a lark. I was expecting a bit more solemnity. Unfortunately, some are attempting to spin this to advantage, when we should all be thanking those who had the nerve and valor to struggle with the shooter and run towards the gunfire.

Same here, it seemed more of a charade.

Re: Did you watch memorial for AZ shooting victims?

The invocation by Chief Pendejo was powerful nonsense. That feather waving really set the tone for what passes now for a meaningful, solemn memorial...

Hate to admit it but I rather felt the President did a decent job, though he could have shown some humility and hit his marks in half the time.

Re: Did you watch memorial for AZ shooting victims?

I'm watching it in bits and pieces. It's just about more than I can take.

Ouché-t-ay on the eeshirt-t-ay comment. Seriously, OMFG.

Re: Did you watch memorial for AZ shooting victims?

I'am embarassed as a Tucsonan as to the crowds behavior. Apparently when you put Arizonans in a stadium setting its "game on" whether its basketball or a memorial service. Political Showtime should have been the Headline that Night. There are facts that have not made it in the mainstream press that continue to disturb me. New License Plates are on the way after our Sheriffs comment of "Arizona,Mecca OF Bigotry". My .02 ymmv

Re: Did you watch memorial for AZ shooting victims?

My wife and I tried to watch it but had to shut it off. It felt more like a pep rally like stated above. When do you give a standing ovation at a memorial service. You can celebrate life instead of morn the loss, but if it was my family member that was hurt, I would not have been happy with the cheering and clapping.

I do agree that the president did a good job of not politicizing the event, but the crowd kept interrupting like the state of the union address.

My thoughts are with the victims..sad day for America.

I just didn't feel the integrity from our President the way I did when Bush, or Reagan, addressed tragedies...
I was surprised gun control wasn't (verbatim) mentioned in it. I agree the cheering and clapping was overboard - almost like a "pre-election" gathering as opposed to a memorial.

Mostly a dog and pony show. The only part I kinda liked was the mediocre version of "Fanfare for the common man."

The rest of it wreaked of "can't we all just get along?"

I felt the same way and turned it off after five minutes. It was like a mockry of it, and just seemed to be disingenuous. The Family's involved have my Prayers, and deserved better for a Memorial Service.

I couldnt believe the westborough "church" held That poor little 9 YEAR Old Girls funeral hostage for air time. What the ---- have we let our Country become? Her Family needs some Extra Prayers.

Yeah, all the busted notes had me cringing. If they were busing in the rooting section, why not better musicians?

Re: Did you watch memorial for AZ shooting victims?

I agree with the above on it having the feel of a pep rally. I think that there was way too much whistling and cheering for my taste. While I feel that El Pres spoke very well I think he went on about 20 minutes too long. His speech should have been short and sweet, not unlike Reagans speech after the challenger disaster.

Re: Did you watch memorial for AZ shooting victims?

I got the impression that Obama himself was a little taken aback at the response to his speech at first. Then, like the attention hog that he is, he warmed to the atmosphere and began playing to the "pep rally" crowd. I think he should have taken the high road and tone things down right away and not let it get out of control like it did. But, who am I kidding, this guy couldn't find the high road with a GPS.

I felt bad for the families of the victims. This was just not the correct atmosphere for the time and place.
