What is the difference? I am in the group buy for the SWFA 1-6 but have been looking at the USO 1.5x-6 lately and am wondering what the difference between the two on the low end setting is? This is for my 16" LWRC REPR that will be used for close to 600yrds. Thanks.

The difference is the 1x are much faster up close, with more precision. If you're used to running a red dot sight, you'll appreciate the 1x much more than the 1.5x.

In theory the 1x should give you a faster a more comfortable both eyes open picture ... From what Ive heard there are a fair amount of people who are completely uncomfortable using anything above that such as 1.25/1.50 etc... On the other hand there are those it does not affect as much...
Also note that moving above 1x you will 'likely' be sacrificing some level of eye relief and eye box forgiveness.
You really have to look in person to gauge your own comfort level and decide whether the loss in FOV will be a deterrent. The possible benefits of moving to a 1.25 or 1.5 are 'usually' increased mag level given a certain size and an increased value given a certain price point (every model I have seen costs significantly more to have the lower magnification at 1x)

Honestly, I think you will be a happy man being part of the group buy, you already have the full magnification range of the USO. Is it a weight, length or reticle issue that's making you question? Hey, if for some reason you change your mind shoot me a pm and I might take that 1-6 off your hands.

Good luck

Re: Difference between glass with 1.5 vs 1x?

In my opinion it is reticule dependent especially with FFP scopes. I found that with a SFP Leupold MK4 1.5-5 with SPR I was no slower than I was with a red dot. Same with a SFP Meopta 1-4 ZD, SS 1-4 FFP, and NF 1-4 fc2. However, I tried a GRSC 1-4 FFP, Vortex 1-4 Razor HD FFP, and Weaver Tactical 1-5 and found the reticules too small on 1x to be fast and needed to turn them up slightly for use.

I found that with FFP scopes it was completely dependent on reticule design. The Vortex was a fine scope, but on 1x was useless to me, same with the GRSC, and weaver. The SFP scopes were consistent and easy for me to pick up. The SS reticule is designed around this issue and was surprisingly fast. The MK4 was also very useable and nice. The Meopta was awesome, I borrowed it and shot the LaRue Multigun with it this last year. I wasn't looking forward to using it and had a negative outlook prior to using it. I walked away wanting one for myself! Great glass, bright illumination, great reticule. Hope they make a 1-6 version.

It's all very user specific and until you look through it will be hard to make an informed opinion. That's my experience.
