I have a Hornady measurer and am very happy with it. I get very good and consistant throws.

My question, is there really a difference between the Hornady, Redding mad RCBS throwers? They all look to me to operate the same way. (I've not seen the Redding or RCBS in person)

What makes the Redding BR more money?

Also, what is the concept behind the Harrel measurer that justifies over 2X the money?

Re: Differences in powder measures

You forgot to mention the Lee Perfect Powder Measure! It is all plastic, so it tends not to cut extruded kernels.

It is often left out because it is red and because it is the cheapest.

Re: Differences in powder measures

The biggest difference in power measures, all of them, is the user. Different powder types require some difference in measure operation for best (most consistant) charges. Few users ever find that out; they are the best market for digital dumpsters.

Your Hornady measure is fine, IMHO. I don't think my Redding is any better than others of its type, I only bought it because it came with a micrometer adjustment head that the others charge extra for. And, Redding offers a small chamber 'pistol/small rifle' charge plug that also has a mic head IF I wanted to buy it. So far, after a few decades of use, I haven't felt the need for that option but ... it's there.

My limited use of Lee's Perfect is that it may work better than my Redding for tubular powders, just as well for flake, maybe not quite as well for ball powders.

All a high-cost "competition" powder measure can possibly provide is repeatability of the cavity adjustment for unweighed charges, ie, the adjustment head's 'clicks' for cavity volume is repeatable. That's important for 100/200 yard BR competitors who reload dropped charges while on the firing line but it hardly matters when reloading at home.
