I set up my 650 today and ran the first case, the powder measure dropped 7.7gr i want to drop 5gr so i turned the adjustment screw counter-clockwise and ran it again it dropped 6.2gr so i adjusted it once again and it dropped 4.6 gr, and i tried it there three times with the same result 4.6gr. I adjusted the screw clockwise a quarter of a turn and it dropped 6.2gr again. So i went back and forth several times in different increments with the same results.
It is not adjusting between 4.6 and 6.2gr no matter how little i turn the adjusting screw.
Am i doing something wrong?

Re: Dillon 650 help needed

It doesn't make any sense . If you can adjust to a level above & below the desired value, you should be able to hit the proper charge.

Check to see if you are using the small charge bar. You need to have it! Check to see if the powder measure is opening all the way. If not, adjust the powder die. Always keep your powder measure full. Nothing else to add. I run 2.8gr, 4.3gr, and 4.8gr with out any issues.

If this doesn't fix it, call Dillon. They are awesome.

Re: Dillon 650 help needed

Thanks for the response.Measure is opening and closing all the way,and it's full with powder.I don't know if it is the small charge bar as they are not marked in any way but the manual says it is shipped with the small bar installed and i have not had it out, but maybee they put the large one in there instead. It is worth a try.
Thanks Bob.

Re: Dillon 650 help needed

Leave the small bar installed. The large bar will have issues with small charges. As mentioned, measure the thickness of the current bar. Or take the exramout of the package & compare. There is a huge difference. Not sure what else to try. I never had thus problem with any of my Dillon's.

Re: Dillon 650 help needed

Could be a couple of things. First, what powder are you using? Ball powders meter better, especially in small increments, than stick powder.
Second, take the bar out of the dispenser and make sure all sides are clean and smooth, also check the inside of the 'tunnel' that the bar slides through. Make sure you have the press adjusted so you get full stroke on the dispenser.

FWIW, some powders just don't meter accurately through a Dillon dispenser. Don't get me wrong, I've got a 550 and a 650 and love 'em both, but there are some compromises for speed.

exactly what i was thinking, i used this method to get 24.7 grain of BLC-2 for my 5.56mm rounds, except i used 1/6th turn, as the bolt is a hex head.

Re: Dillon 650 help needed

Per others take it apart, clean and check, easy to do. Get your manual and put it back together about as simple system as there is. On small/all charges I run full cycle's when setting powder weight to get accurate results, I can't just short stoke around to powder charge station, charge and SS to where I can remove case dump and weigh. I size and bang around like normal loading cycle W/O seating bullet of course then weight. After I turn powder increase/decrease I always bang through 2 or 3 cyles then weigh.

That's exactly what i did! turned it all the way in then out, then adjusted in 1/4 turns and it works perfectly, dialed it right in. Thanks everyone your help is greatly appreciated.
