Dimpling on 223 FL sizing die?

Never had this problem on my RCBS small base die. However, recently changed to a Redding 223 FL die.
I couldn't find my imperial wax so I used Poor Man's Lanolin spray. The lube is smooth and slick.

I've seen this on my 338 die when the air bleed is plugged, and on my 308 die if the die has wax buildup.

The group of cases on the left are if I ram it up normally (~2 seconds for up/down)
The two cases on the right are if I slowly bring the die up in a 4 count. Out of 30 cases, only 2 are NOT dimpled.

The dimpling is not in the same location. Sometimes at 5 O'Clock, sometimes at 9, sometimes at 12, and so on....

I've inspected the inside of the die for variations in the reflective surface and seen nothing questionable.

Any suggestions?

This is a classic sign of excessive lubricant. Liquids aren't compressible and if there's nowhere to go the case is going to give. Lube some additional cases, but be sure to wipe off any excess or to let the lube dry.

Agree completely but the lube on this is nothing. The case is not even wet to the touch but you can feel the lanolin.
I'll try it with a couple of "dry" cases and see what gives.

The die is brand new. I wiped it out when I first started using it. Got stuck on the 2nd case because I used only silicone.

Get yourself some Imperial sizing wax and see if that helps.

Doesn't take much. Take a gallon zip lok and put a couple hundred cases in it. Spray 3 times or so, and roll them around in the bag and empty into a box. After the first time, 1 or 2 sprays is sufficient because the inside of the bag has residual lanolin.

I agree, too much lube. It may be building up in your die. The vent hole that RCBS uses really seems to help! I do almost exactly what "Former Naval Person" describes. I also sit at the table with a rag in one hand and wipe off the shoulder area as I feed them into the sizing die. That helps, as spray lube gets on every part of the case.

The dents won't hurt anything, and will fireform out. They just look ugly! I use the Dillon lube when doing large batches, but plan to make my own, once the Dillon is gone. Lightman
