I just got my McMillan carbon fiber stock in and it's about to head to the GS, along with the rest of the parts for my current project. All of a sudden, I'm wondering about having an Arca-Swiss type QD plate, for direct mounting to a tripod, installed. I know there are lots of options for gas gun rails and chassis systems; but I'm wondering what options I have to install one on a traditional style, carbon fiber stock?

I'd like to be able to take it on and off, when I don't need it.

FWIW - I'm using American Precision Arms' RTG/SA bottom metal and AICS magazines.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

No different from mounting a bipod stud or an Atlas rail.

Get a set of these http://www.accu-shot.com/catalog_new/accessories/73-bt1517-rail-mounting-fastener-set.html

Draw a centerline from action screws to bipod stud (or screw hole for rail).

Use small drill bit to drill from shell into the foam core, so from bottom to the inlet side. I suggest putting tape on stock when drilling shell side.

Flip it over and use pilot hole to guide large drillbit (I use wood bits) to make countersink hole.

Since you want it removable would fill in the hole on the inlet side with JB weld putty and sand it flush with barrel channel. I like the putty stick JB weld for this as its not runny or messy and wont goop down into the threaded insert.

I have OCD so I at this point usually sand putty flush and mask off stock and hut the barrel channel with flat black krylon just to make it all look clean and finished.

Now you can attach a myriad of inexpensive Arcraswiss plates and also easily remove.
