So I've owned several Dillon presses, some nice and new and blue, others purchased second hand that were dark and grease stained from years of use. I had halfheartedly tried to clean the blue press frame at one point using a solvent without much luck so ignored it and just carried on using the press.

Then yesterday I was cleaning a rifle and had a wet patch with Hoppe's #9 on it and out of curiosity gave a quick wipe on the stained blue press. Darned if it didn't clean it easy as pie with barely any rubbing and no ill effects to the paint. Used a couple more wet patches and cleaned out the inside of black carbon and lanolin caked cartridge bins, it cleaned those too amazingly well.

Three minutes and about 5-10 wet patches later and the whole darn press looked MUCH better.

Hoppe's #9.... go figure!

Here's a picture I found of a filthy Dillon press as an example. Not mine, but this is the kind of stuff I was cleaning off.

Boretech seems to be the rage now. I recently bought some Eliminator and it seems to work very well. I thought I was a neanderthal for using Shooters Choice for so many years. I also tried CLR and it worked like a boss on carbon. Didn't seem to do anything to the copper. But it's amazing how subjective people's opinions are on solvents.

Yeah, when I actually care I have Boretech Eliminator and Boretech C4 carbon remover, plus odds and ends of CLR, Wipeout, etc. But for something handy I keep a jar full of patches with Hoppes #9 poured over them. Easy to grab a wet patch and run through a barrel for a quick clean, or for wiping down a bolt or other odd jobs. Hoppes actually works pretty well on carbon if you're not in a rush. Patch the barrel a couple times to get it wet, forget about it for a few hours, repeat, brush/patch, come back and work on it tomorrow, etc. Nice to have options for cleaning.

That's pretty cool that Hoppe's did the trick!

IIRC, Dillon will refurb a used press for a really reasonable price. I haven't sent them one myself, but from those I know who have it seems like they come back looking nearly new.

I did, extremely happy with the results. IIRC, it was $75.00 plus shipping to Dillon/Scottsdale. Took a day or two turnaround, free return shipping. IMHO, a deal that just can’t be beat. I’m pretty certain UPS made more on the outbound shipping from me to Dillon, than Dillon made on the cleaning and absorbing the return shipping costs.
