how do you guys pull apart test ammo that was "hotter" than the round you stopped with while looking for pressure.

i have used the "plastic hammer" method. it was ok, but messy and i am sure there is a better way to pull the bullet but not destroy a perfectly good berger vld in the process.

thoughts?

Re: dissasembly of over max ammo

Unless you are running alot of neck tension the plastic hammer should work fine. Make sure the foam is still in the bottom of the tube. I have pulled bullets this way and loaded the bullets with great success.

good luck

If you need foam in a kinetic hammer puller, and don't have any, stuff one of these down there......

I have been using the rcbs collet die and much prefer it to the plastic hammer. That being said the hammer does work, just make sure you are hitting it smartly on a hard surface. It usually takes me about 3 hits on 223 and 308.

Collet die here also.

Yes, and no.....

To some, reloading is a PITA period...as evident by the holy grail of shortcuts forever sought by them.

If I had to take apart, say 100 rounds, a hammer wouldn't be my first choice.....but I doubt I'd run out and buy a collet puller to do it just once, since I have a hammer.

Unless I misunderstood the OP's context, to pull a few over-pressure loads during load R&D, a hammer works just fine....and that's really the only need I've ever had for a puller to begin with.

Six or so loads up there where I shouldn't have been anyway, too scary to shoot......

Working up slowly, as advised by any competent source of reloading advice, translates to a very limited need to pull bullets.

As always, mileage may vary...........
