Hello everyone,

Can anyone who owns a AI AE MKIII 1/12 twist Lothar Walther tell me the distance to the lands.
Better yet how are you guys measuring the distance.
So far, I have loaded to 2.815" to fit in the magazine, and Im getting great results but I would like to explore the loading .015 or .020 off, but I have no idea where the lands and grooves are.

I have a RCBS precision mic, a Hornady Lock and Load oal gauge with 308 modified case, which I can use but need some advise on how to best measure this area.
Im shooting 175g SMK, and 155g Scenars.

Thanks everyone for any help.

There's no answer to your question. The more you shoot the more your throat erodes hence longer distance to lands. Use the hornady tool, measure your results from the bullets ogive, back off 100/1000's and start playing with it.

It is really based upon the bullet you are reloading for your AI bolt gun. There is no straight forward answer as each type of bullet's secant radius will produce a different maximum ogive measurement. Just read this especially the part on using the hornady OAL gauge and watch the OAL gauge videos in this link to get yourself going
