I have sets of M40 A3 type rings I sent off for coating. After sending them off I remembered my marks on which way the ring caps face will be removed. Are they indexed front and back? I don't mean between the rings as the front is 6 screw and the back 4 but does it matter which way the cap faces on the individual ring? Never realy thought about it before but have always tried to keep them the way they came out of the package. Neither set is lapped. Any help appreciated.

Re: Do badger ring caps need to be indexed

The simple answer is no but I'm sure

A) Someone will go into detail as to why
B) Someone will disagree.

Since badger holds tight tolerances and the holes are punch out so well you will have a greater negative effect by torquing your rings down to an uneven base tahn flipping your caps.

Once you get the rings back, if this is your final set up, I would hit the bottoms lightly with a lapping bar after you torque them down to your base and never worry about the orientation of the caps.
