How important is this? I have a VERY little gap, if any between the rear of my base and the rail, when the front screws are installed. Is bedding that necessary, or should i just mount the base and move on?

Ask yourself this simple question...if you could see daylight between your stock and the receiver would you be comfortable simply torquing it down and bending the action until the gap disappeared? If the answer is yes dont bed it.

Re: Do I have to bed my scope base?

If i could see daylight than it would be a no brainer. There is an absolutely tiny space in the rear. Not eneough to even see light through. I have never used a one piece base before, and after reading up and watching vids on installing them, i thought I'd check with you guys. I quess either way it can't hurt, so it looks like I have a bedding job to do. Thanks.

Re: Do I have to bed my scope base?

After bedding my scope base for the first time and realizing how easy the whole operation is I will bed all my bases from here on out.

Use the search engine in my tag line and find the DIY threads here on how to do it. It only takes a few $$$ and a couple of hours, overnight cure of the devcon and your good to go.

Just my two cents.......

Re: Do I have to bed my scope base?

After seeing how bad some of the Remington rear receivers are I would do it just for insurance, Iv'e seen some that need as much as 1/8'' of JB weld to bed the base.

Would you really wan't to force the base to meet up with it and cause a misalignment somewhere else?

+1

I just bedded my first after reading a thread here, and I will do it on all future builds. Very easy.

Re: Do I have to bed my scope base?

Either bedding or lapping would seem very wise, given the very high likelihood of a poor fit between base and receiver.

Re: Do I have to bed my scope base?

I did it this morning. Better safe than sorry I quess.

LoneWolf- I watched your video about 4 times prior to asking on here. It was my motivation for starting this thread. I have sevral scoped rifles and shotguns, but never played with a one piece base before. I have been following your stuff on a few different boards over the years and I must say you are a great resource for the rest of us. Thank you.

(that doesn't sound too gay does it?)

Thanks for the video, looks like I need to tear my AAC apart now and check it out. Really looking forward to part 4 by the way
