Rifle Scopes Do you have an Athlon Ares 27x?

I am somewhat reluctant to comment on clarity as eyes are different and people see differently but to answer your question:

I recently (within last moth) shot an ELR match with an ares 4.5x27 target placement was 1516,1675,1867, 1951 and 2208 yards. Scoring was Ko2M like. I had hits all the way back to 2208. The "close" targets were steel silhouettes and the 2208 target was rectangular 30something by 30 something. I used the full 27x until I needed all the mils in the reticle (and then some, I was holding 13 mils)at 2208 where I dialed back to 15x....

I have the Ares BTR and at 27X it's plenty clear out to 1,200 yards but you need a sunshade if the sun is anywhere within 90 degrees of your point of aim because it will cause enough glare to cause a blur in the image. With the sunshade, it's clear!

I have both Ares scopes. I can't attest to the clarity of 27x. I've been using the 2.5-15 more(Sako Quad). I did buy the sunshade for the 4.5-27. I was a little bummed it didn't come with the scope. When your talking budget FFP, I think every penny for the manufacturer counts. They should include in the price for anything that has a long range intended use.

^ same for me. really contemplating trying an ares out. Have ran argos btr on some of my beater guns and for what they are they work well. Had been leary of spending more on an unknown company, but they seem to be doing well (not sure about financially but they seem to be moving a lot of scopes), so hopefully they aren't going to just shut the doors one day.

The truth is, Athlon has been a financial success story. I don't know all the details nor my place to comment anyway. Let's just say the team making up Athlon are good people, hard workers, business smart, and sensitive to market needs, and there's a lot lot more to their success than what's mentioned.

Heck their booth at Shot was 4 times bigger than it was 3 years ago if that's any indication.

As said, you need the sunshade when on 27X but its excellent when the sun is behind you. You do need to get exact comb height though as the eye box is height sensitive at that power.
Reticle is excellent and I enjoyed the ability to hold off at any mag.

I have just come back from a weekend goat shoot where it was used at 7am here in NZ. I was VERY happy with it's performance.

2 goats were taken with this rifle

I too will need a sunshade and wish it was included in the box.... neither are scope covers..... A Nightforce style rubber bungy can't be too expensive to include.
