Hi there,
I’m debating whether to keep my MDT ESS or purchase the ACC sans buttstock. I certainly prefer the design of the ACC but assumed it was significantly heavier than the ESS even without the weight kit. I shoot some comps, some hunting, and also enjoy backpacking in to areas for shooting and prefer a chassis under 5.3 or so pounds as a result. That’s the only reason why I chose the ESS over the ACC.
However, when I made the decision I assumed the MDT ESS was 4.6lbs based on the website, but weighed it today and it was close to 4.9lbs (with standard non picatinny foreend). Additionally, I read a review and it mentioned that the bare ACC only weighed 5.2lbs (not 5.9 according to the MDT website) and has a heavier steel buttstock plate while the ESS has an aluminum plate 2.5x lighter than the steel ACC plate. If I added an Arca to the ESS like I intend to I’m probably going to be fairly close in weight. Additionally, if I kept the aluminum ESS buttstock with the ACC I’m probably at least matched in weight, without the design benefits of the ACC. If it’s true that the weights are fairly closely matched (and lower than on the MDT website) I’ll be ordering an ACC and really don’t see what the purpose of the ESS is, unless you’re running a night vision setup.
Am I missing anything here? Does anyone have any idea what the bare ACC weight is? Or advantages of the ESS that I may be unaware of?
thanks
