Iam looking for a DBM system that uses AI magazines for the Howa 1500. Heres the tricky part, Iam looking for something that will fit with little to no inletting and that uses a system other than a drop down lever to release the mag ex: Seekins precision, or Battle Arms.

Ive found about four options so far but all with drop down levers.

Thanks

Jason

pardon the caps:

HAS LEVER: Detachable Box Mag Systems - cdiprecisiongunworksstore.com

DOESN'T HAVE LEVER, NO INLETTING, BUT DOESN'T TAKE AI MAGS EITHER: Legacy Sports International Howa Detachable Magazine Conversion Kit .308 Winchester 10 Round

APPEARS TO BE THE SAME AS ABOVE: Detachable Box Magazine Kit | Accessories | Products | Weatherby.com

HERE'S SOMETHING A GUY MADE, NOT AI: Home made detachable mag’ conversion for a Howa.

THESE WILL NEED INLETTING, TAKES AI STYLE MAGS AND HAS LEVER: Pacific Tool & Gauge, Inc. - Specials Page

IF YOU HAVE A SHORT ACTION, THESE ARE ON SALE: https://shop.pacifictoolandgauge.co...ucts_id=1603&zenid=k874fgkv7k2da7ce2dot5d3263
CHEAP ENOUGH TO EXPERIMENT WITH.

lever, and inletting but takes AI https://www.badgerordnance.com/product-category/trigger-guards/

these are slick, don't know if they have howa: Detachable Bottom Metal - Parts & Accessories and it looks as if there will be inletting. no lever, aics mags.

this is as close as you are going to get...no lever, aics style mags, but there's inletting involved: Howa 308/10 Assy., WYATT'S OUTDOOR, INC.

Howa 308/5 Assy., WYATT'S OUTDOOR, INC.

Howa 223/4 Assy., WYATT'S OUTDOOR, INC.

instructions on "near drop in" DBM for wyatt, howa : WYATT'S OUTDOOR, INC.

has lever, may need some inletting, don't know if they have something for howa: Stillers Precision Firearms

henderson defense has some nice BM, don't know if they still make it. same as the BAD BDM, which seems not to be had anywhere.

you can trim the lever to some extent on the paddle lever ones. other than that you are SOL on what you are looking for.

for a AICS mag type conversion, this works well for me at half the price of a regular metal mag: http://www.snipershide.com/shooting...conversion-m5-aics-type-bm-rem-700-shown.html

you can "inlet" yourself, but after further review, i'd send it off to get done: http://www.snipershide.com/shooting/snipers-hide-d-i-y/219944-diy-ptg-stealth-dbm-install.html

Why do you not want a drop lever out of curiosity? That's kind of how those magazines work and tested/ proven the world over.

To answer your question though, no I do not know of any.

The lever is uh, how the mags work. If you want those mags, you need the lever.

yep, then there's that "complication"

Doesn't work? Perhaps there was some miscommunication with what Iam looking for because both the seekins precision and Battle arms DBM use AI mags and don't have the lever that hangs down so not sure what you guys mean.

Second I was hoping for one that doesn't have the the stick down lever because it doubles as a hunting rifle. We are limited to 3 rounds in a hunting rifle so I use the 3 round ruger mags. it also almost sits flush with the stock so the drop down lever would be exposed (no mag protection) and easily bumped in the thick woods. But it also would allow me to run 5-10 rounds at the range.

Thanks for the links, I had found almost all those already but they were either what I wanted and only did m700 or made it for Howa and had the lever. I figured I was SOL but I thought one last try and figured if anybody new of one it would be somebody on this site.

CDI and PTG are the only two I'm aware of for the Howa/Vanguard that use AICS mags. I too wish somebody made something like the Seekins or APA without the big lever.

To me the easiest solution for you would be to use a 5 round mag with a block in it so it can only hold 3 rounds but protects the latch, and shorten the lever a hair on either the CDI or PTG unit. Unless you machine your own bottom metal that's the next best thing as far as I can see.

I hear you. If I can't find what Iam looking for and have to go the lever route I will probably go with the Roedale Precision. Thanks to the fellow above I didn't know about the Wyatts kit and Iam waiting to hear back if it would be possible to alter there mags to 3 rounds without much trouble.

the mags have a little nipple on them that rests upon something to keep them in the well. every mag and mag well does this, even mags with buttons on the side have a nipple and something to rest on or hole for something solid to insert into it principle.

it's just that the badger, CDI, PTG have the longer lever so it's as easy as pie to manipulate and quickens mag changes.

the seekins and Battle arms just "hides" or low profiles that very same mechanism by use of a button and a flusher side lever on the sides of the trigger guard.

if you notice on the howa DM polymer conversions, the "lever / paddle" is in front rather than the back by the trigger guard. probably so you have to buy their magazines. i don't know if any other will work.

you say you are using 3 round ruger mags now? if so, the 5 or 10 rounders should not be an issue?

received word back "The latch only fits R&D, Badger bottom metal, and Manners mini-chassis"

i thought maybe i'd get one and see if it can be modified to fit a PTG, then i thought maybe not....short on time to tinker.

so it fits the above bottom metals, though i don't know if they make a howa model / receiver spacing.
