MIDLAND, Texas — An embarrassed Sheriff Gary Painter fired one Midland County deputy and suspended three others without pay after a scantily dressed waitress holding a rifle posed for photographs on the hood of a patrol vehicle. Round Rock officers were dispatched to the restaurant after someone reported the waitress with the weapon, which had been given to her by one of the deputies who had been attending a training session near Austin.

The incident occurred last week in the parking lot of a Twin Peaks restaurant, which promotes its "fun, friendly and sometimes flirty atmosphere!"

The deputies told Painter that they had about three to five beers each.

A fifth deputy who remained inside the eatery got a letter of reprimand.

Were they disciplined for putting a Department weapon in the hands of a non-officer without any justifiable need,

or for letting a photo of the event get out and expose the Department to criticism and ridicule,

or....

For ****ing around with Department equipment and squad car(s?) while drinking 3-5 beers?

Uniform + squad car = no alcohol at all, in my book. SURELY there was a policy or two there that was badly violated.

I'm teaching my kids that alcohol is just expensive "brain eraser".

Grump, not sure. But, Im guessing that booze and letting her hold the weapon are the main reasons.

I try and stand up for guys when they have a leg to stand on. But, I just dont see a leg to stand on here. They fucked up. Royally.

So for those who 'know better', put yourself in this hypathetical (key word: pathetic) situation. You are out with your co-workers/bro's and you know better. But they/them are starting to do wrong.

I pray that you see the sarcastic irony above, but from the perspective of the 'one who stayed in the diner', what really could he have done? All 5 involved are deputies, and no other comment towards seniority or anything.

A male-type patron is reported as calling it in.

Possibly some dweeb who felt threatened by a chick having a bigger gun than he does....
