I have seen post about the look, quality, and finish of the Savage rifles
Well my employer purchased a 10FCP-K in 308 Win, for me as a “Thank you”.
So I went to the range Saturday with 2 boxes of Winchester 147Gr White Box, just to break in the barrel. It was the most disappointing experience I have ever had shooting !
The grouping (if you can call it that !) was in the 4” to 5” class, more like a shot pattern then a group !! I did consider using it as a boat paddle…..but I don’t own a boat.
Well went back today (Sunday) with 50 round of prepped Federal Brass, 168 Gr. SMK, and some Varget powder, I started at 45 grains of Varget, and set the bullet .003”
off the lands (this thing has a very short throat for a factory barrel !!) Holly cr@p !!!
I have a ¾’’ group ! well now we are talking something I can work with. After some tweeking of the load (and I’m not finished !) I was shooting about 50% ½” / 50% ¼” from an out of the box rifle !!!…………..
The only thing that I can (now) complain about is that the stocks wrist is to thin for my liking, it’s the size of a hot dog ! No bun !! ( and, dame I like a good set of bun’s )

Mine would not shoot low end factory ammunition either. I don't even bother with the stuff anymore.

As you've found out the WWB 147gr cheapo ammo is JUNK. I don't even shoot the crap from my Ruger P95 because the accuracy is so poor. I never thought I'd say that ammo was the weak link with accuracy in that pistol (as much as I like the reliability of it).

Glad you like your Savage now, mine shoots bugholes with both factory barrels and the custom barrel that I have swapped in and out on it.

"The crap" was in reference to the Win White Box ammo, several flavors of it have shot like absolute garbage for me. Although, a 308 pistol could be kinda fun...

have never seen or heard of a horrible shooting savage...that said, i looked at some savages today that had stocks on them that flexed like 1/4" or better like silly putty in the forearm area. whatch out for horrible savage stocks.

My latest one had such a deplorable plastic stock. It makes the much decried SPS Varmint stock look and feel magnificent by comparison.

It has been replaced.

yeah the stocks they come with are garbage, but the guns just plain shoot. choate has a new stock thats pretty slick. its for the new centerfed actions or whatever, it wont fit on mine. i have the older 10fp. i have the older choate stock the ultimate varmiter and its heavy, ugly, but its better than the one it came with. and it still shoots 1/2 to 3/4 depending on me that day with 43 grains of 4064 and 168 smks

Look on the savage website and you'll see that many in their line of rifles are offered in laminate and other top brand glass stock MFG's,as well as their new accustock too.In LH as well as RH.There's no excuse for waiting months for a Quality and affordable tack driver to be built.Savage is getting more shooters going out to the range,outdoors,match's and thats a good thing.

I still say Savage's main rule is: "They put the money in the rifle where it needs to be. If there's any money left over they pay somebody to make it look ugly..."

Try some 175gr SMKs. I have a model 10 FCP-Choate and it has a 1 in 10" twist rate. So far it really likes the heavy bullets.
I have only had time to shoot a box of BH through it, but 500 175gr SMKs landed on my porch last week and I will be working up a load for it.

I own a savage 10fp in 308 with 24" barrel and I have to say its the best gun I have owned besides my AI-AW. My savage far out shot my 2 Remington rifles out of the box. I shot 175 grain FGMM and it did great.
