Not sure I'm even thinking straight, but here goes. . .

I built up a Savage 308 for match use and finally got it where I want it. 10FP, 26" barrel, customized Bell & Carlson stock, Atlas bipod, and a Steiner 3-12X. It'll do about 3/8" when I do my part. My son and I have be sharing it to shoot local matches.

Six or eight months ago I bought a SCAR 17. Found out that it'll shoot nearly as well as the Savage. Scoped it up and shot matches side-by-side with my son. It was nice to compete well with the SCAR, took second at one of our precision matches with it. If I had it my way, I'd scope it with a Nightforce 2.5-10X.

So, I got to thinkin' . . .

Since money is tight right now, would it make sense to sell off the Savage and maybe the Steiner? I could then afford to scope the 17 with the Nightforce and use that combo for the matches. I'm currently building up a budget .223 for my son, so I'd probably have enough left over for a starter scope for that rifle (thinking SWFA 12X).

Should I hang onto the Savage? Steiner too much scope for the SCAR? I kinda think so, its awful big.

Not surprised. Barrel length is overrated when it comes to shooting paper. If I were in your shoes I'd sell the Savage and Steiner and throw a March 3-24 or Leuy MK 6 on that bad boy. Dreamy set up right there...

I desire the 20" length to really stretch it's legs. My 16" can get me to 850 yards on a calm day. I enjoy the scar platform ergonomics just wish it had a second barrel for the shots past 1000 yards.

I have sent Hi Desert dog emails, I always check there page periodically. They don't respond to emails and I have never seen the 20" in Stock or I would have bought one. I got to talk to a person from there a year ago over the phone he informed me they would have them on the website in 2 weeks. I check their website everyday for 3 months. So needless to say I have done my part trying to get their business. Wish they would do theirs.

I've recently picked up a 7.62 can and have lightly considered swapping to the 13" barrel. Not too big of a fan of the longer barrel as I'm satisfied with the accuracy I'm getting out of the factory tube and my max range will be limited to 600 yards. I'd just like to scope the SCAR with something lighter-weight than the Steiner and I think the Nightforce NXS 2.5-10X32 is the ticket.

I'm the same. I grabbed a 12.5" POF and threw a Leuy MK 6 on it. Couldn't be happier with the accuracy out to 600, size and weight. I'd highly recommend the switch!
