DPMS .308 upper charging handle issue

I recently received a BCM charging handle with medium latch for my ar-308 build. I have run across a problem where the charging handle is catching on the upper. I assume that a .308 will take a little more strength to pull the charging handle back but it looks like it might be catching at different points. Could this be an issue with the charging handle itself? Or is it possible my upper is needing to be sanded down a bit? It is the upper with the forward assist, not the slick side. Any help on this would be much appreciated.

A picture is worth a thousand words. I understand the issue, but I'm having a hard time visualizing the latch actually contacting the receiver.

Re: DPMS .308 upper charging handle issue

did the stock one do it? does it stop while you are drawing it back? is it the newness of it all? does it stop the bolt? does it do this if the upper isnt attached to the lower? that eliminates the buffer and spring. i had a timney in a dpms 308 lower and it caused the bolt to freeze when i drew it back to cock it. turns out timney had heard about it and it was a dpms issue. the hammer was rubbing on the bottom of the BCG and i would have to grind/file/hone the hammer for clearance or magically get the pin holes lowered. timney said it was my trigger, do whatever but they didnt reccomend modifying the trigger so i sold the dpms lower and went MA10 and all the same parts fit that and function 100%. see whats grabbing what and that will tell you what you need to fix or break in

Is this a new rifle?
Is this happening with a round in the chamber?

Could be the the teeth on the bolt are still sharp and need to be worked in a little.

Could be the hammer hitting the bottom of the BCG aforementioned above.

Could just need some moly greese applied around parts of the BCG and the action worked a number of times.

I wouldn't sand on anything.

Both of my BCM charging handles are very tight in the receiver. One for 223 and one for 308. I run a little bit of grease on the end where it drags slightly. They will break in over time.

fwiw i have the mod 3 or whatever the largest is of the BCM handle and fear not, its good stuff. and its worn since i bought it used but its smooth to cycle. does this stop the bolt? mine would stay locked back until the spring eventually won out and it closed . i was baffeled til i looked and eliminated and then took a good look to discover the cause
