So now that I've finally got my DPMS G2 Bull I'm debating on a couple of things and would just see what you guys think. I'm getting the barrel threaded and putting a JP Tactical Compensator on it for now until I get a supressor, but I'm not sure if I should leave the barrel at 24 inches or cut down to 22 inches. And whether or not I should flute it just to drop a little weight. There's so many what if's I don't know what to do so just seeing what input you guys think. Thanks.

On a side note I've already installed a Nikon M308 scope with a Burris Fastfire III and Magpul MOE+grip. Now I'm just waiting to bring it to my gs for him to install MI Keymod 15" rail, hiperfire trigger and to have it duracoated.

First of all, welcome to The Hide!

Secondly, and I understand this is your first post, I would suggest being a little more specific around what specifically you're trying to accomplish when asking for guidance. Any feedback you'll receive will be much more useful when doing so.

My advice would be to get behind your new rifle, put a bunch of rounds through it and clearly understand what you do and don't have. I assure you, at that point you'll have a much better idea of the types of modifications you'd like to make (if any) and specifically why they make sense in the context of your application.

Hopefully that helps...

Have you even shot the rifle yet? If so, how does it shoot? Probably something important to know before you start making modifications. You're only going to save a few ounces fluting the barrel. If the GS doesn't have much experience doing this or doesn't really know what they are doing, it's a great way to turn a good barrel into a tomato stake. If you wanted something lighter to carry around, it sounds like you should have bought the recon model to begin with.

lol with a 24 inch barrel and everything else you have put on it then add a 30 cal suppressor I would suggest you put some wheels on it . seriously the reviews I have read all point to the new genII being a great rifle and like the other guys said shoot it for a bit before you go spending a bunch of money on mods you may or may not need .

for Christ sake, post some pics of that shit!......... or it didn't happen!

No I have not shot the rifle. Haven't done anything with it and don't plan on it until after I get it set up the way I want it. I am threading the barrel just debating on whether or not to leave it at 24 or cut down. And whether or not to flute it which I'm pretty much leaning towards not fluting it and leaving at 24. It will mainly be used as a dmr/patrol rifle and for occasional hunting.

Cutting off 2 inches will not save you a ton of weight and will not Change the handling of the gun appreciably. Fluting while it may offer benefits, the change will not improve performance appreciablly. Depending on how dpms makes those barrels, it may not even be an option. If it were me, I would thread the barrel and put the rest toward reloading as that will likely provide more substantial benefits
