DPMS LR-260

So after getting slain in just about every match I go to by gas guns, I've decided I'm gonna move into a gas gun platform. I have read quite a few reviews about the DPMS LR-260 and how people are shooting .75-1 MOA groups with them bone stock, sometimes even .5 MOA. For an $1100 gun that seems pretty impressive and I really see no need to drop $2500-$3000 on a POF or LMT or the like. I figure all I need to get for it is a Magpul PRS, ERGO grip, and Timney or similar trigger and I can possibly have a .5 MOA gas gun for $1500 minus optics.
Any opinions?

Re: DPMS LR-260

In my experience DPMS has been hit or miss; if you get a good one you'll be very happy but get a bad you'll be pretty unhappy.

What gas gun(s) have been kicking your ass in matches? Factory DPMS rifle?

DPMS LR 260 would be okay starter rifle and make a decent parts kit to build off of later. Most of the guys I know that started with a LR 260 were having a custom barrel put on in <500 rds.

I'd rather spend the $ and get a GAP, APA, SAC or other custom build using a high quality barrel from the start.

Re: DPMS LR-260

sometimes i crack myself up.....

its all about triggers and barrels,,,,,my thoughts would be to best replicate what a bolt gun trigger is,,,,,,my experience is with the JP.......and have run 'em for years

Re: DPMS LR-260

I've got both Timney and JP, I'd go JP every time. Only reason I have the Timney is it came in a used rifle I picked up.

Re: DPMS LR-260

DPMS LR shares lots of parts with -15. I don't recall exactly off top of my head all the parts.
Grips, yes
Stock, mostly yes. If you run std A2 stock then yes. MagPul UBR, can be done but need a shorter buffer. Can be done but not with "stock" parts that come with UBR for -15. MagPul PRS there is -10/LR version so you can use adj. cheek piece. If you don't use adj. cheek piece can use -15 version on LR.

Re: DPMS LR-260

I had a DPMS LR 308 it was a hell of a shooter, I also put a PRS stock on it as well as a Rock River arms two stage trigger ( it was so-so).
One thing that did help accuracy was to polishing the feed ramps with a dremel, felt tip and rouge.
I sold mine because I prefer the bolt action platform.

Re: DPMS LR-260

Kind of went this way. Got a Lr-308 and will build a 260 off of a Kreiger barrel. Not bad with the DPMS stuff. BUt I am going to switch the barrel out after building the 260 upper.

Geiselle trigger all the way.

Re: DPMS LR-260

mine took several months, but it was shortly after obama got in, so everyone was pretty backed up.
but the wait was worth it for a sub 1/4 MOA gas gun.

Re: DPMS LR-260

A PRS accomplishes 0.
If weight in the butt is the goal you can get that for $30.00.
If higher cheek weld is the goal use the right ring height. For me its a high.
If butt length is at issue adjust move scope forward in the rings, or use an extended riser, or an adjustable butt that cost only $125.00.
Prone requires your cheek to be forward and either OFF or precariously off/on the clever little cheek riser of the PRS. Bad! Then you have to adjust the butt out. With an A2 stock, simply move the scope forward.

I used a PRS. Its a gimmick - sent that thing down the road. I know some like them. They don't realize a better result is accomlished a better way.

A PRS looks nifty, snipery, smart, but its expensive, heavy, throws the gun off balance,..........etc.

for the riser, lower rings wont help if your scope has a larger odjective lense. i have a 50MM objective in med rings with a riser, and it is just a hair off of the HG. i do need just a little bit of rise to line up right.
the "butt length adjustment" is not for moving your eye in relation to the scope, its adjusting the length of pull(distance between the trigger and your shoulder) the proper LOP on your rifle is determaned by the length of your arms.
also(at least for my REPR) the PRS very nicely balanced the 24" SST bull bbl and it lets me shoot off hand at running game quite comfertably.
yes, there are several ways that you can get the same results, the PRS just happens to be one of them.

well, i dont have a .260 bolt so i guess i cant realy compare. but my gas gun is a hell of a shooter. I practice out to 700yards, hunt with it at long range too(my rifle range is my back yard/is my hunting land) I'v taken deer out to 600yards with it but most are around 450yards.
at 500 i can hold .3MOA 5 shot groups, and i'v managed a few just under that.
5 shot at 100, 140gr Berger match VLD, 42.8gr IMR-4350 @2715fps

same load at 500yards(they dont normaly cluster quite so nice, but the overall group size is about normal)

Re: DPMS LR-260

Purchased a LR308 a few months back and I was not happy with it's grouping at all. Decided to change the barrel and while I'm at it the caliber aswell so I ordered a Krieger BBL in 260 rem (26"). Now im just waiting out the 13-16 weeks they advised it would take to have my barrel made. Oh by the way I started off with a JP trigger and though it worked well it was just a bit harder than I liked so I replaced it with a geissele DMR trigger and it has been OUSTANDING so far.

Re: DPMS LR-260

i have a stock dpms lr-260 with about 500 rounds thru it.its a great shooter.with 139g lapuas it will hold 2.75"-3.5" 5 shot groups at 600yds ,20 shot groups about 5"-6".other bullets like 107g and 142g matckkings do almost as good.yes dpms quality is hit and miss, but if you get a good one you will be happy.

Re: DPMS LR-260

I love my prs stock on my lr308. Balances the 24" bb out nicely. Makes it easy to find the correct eye relief every time , and made it to where it was the right length for the trigger pull. It and the geissele trigger have made a nice difference. 1/2 moa at 500 when I do my part.
