DPMS Sass failure to eject first range trip

I am wondering if anyone has any ideas on why my Sass is doing this. I took the gun to the range for the first time yesterday and after about 30 rounds I had a failure to eject. The spent casing was extracted from the chamber but was not ejected causing the next round to jam. This was happening about one in ten shots. I tried different ammo, and mags but same problem. When I got home and stripped the bolt I noticed a lot of grease between the bolt and bolt carrier. No damage was found on the extractor, and the ejector and bolt face was really cruddy. I gave everything a good cleaning, removed the grease and added oil, cleaned the extractor, cleaned bolt face and ejector, and tested the ejector for function. Seems to be okay. Any other ideas? Other than the failure to eject the gun is great, plenty accurate for me.

Sned,
You probably fixed the issue. If the BCG is going back far enough to strip another round off of the magazine, but the extractor doesn't have enough strength to eject the spent cartridge it sounds like there was a mechanical issue that was limiting the range of motion or spring force of the extractor.

You are supposed to clean a new rifle before you fire it. Grease attracts and holds dirt etc.......... If you sent shit bullets down the barrel you can imagine some getting caught in that grease and stinking things up for you. Lube the thing with CLP not grease. Seems like you are shooting quite a few rounds for one outing so I would recommend a lot of CLP on your carrier.

Yes it was very greasy, I probably didn't clean it well enough before shooting. I am hoping that was the problem.

Sned,
Not to beat a dead horse but Hi speed hit the nail on the head.
CLP or miltech are the only pruducts that I use for my guns. I see you are located in PA. When it gets cold there any old oil may freeze up and casue more mechanical issues. When I clean my SA platfroms I use carbarator cleaner or gun scrub (same stuff) from the local auto store and get the operating surfaces as clean as possible, then add a good layer of miltech. Most folks do not put enough lube on their ARs. In the future you sould clean any gun that you buy prior to shooting it, new or used.

Bolt, bolt carrier, if you don't remove the bolt from carrier then put a little in the cam pin hole. Don't get any on the bolt face. Any synthetic grease or oil should work I usually use tetra for my 308's and bolt guns CLP for 223.

Re: DPMS Sass failure to eject first range trip

i agree with above, also if you have an adjustable gas block open it up a little your gass system may be the problem i don't know about the sass if it comes with one

Re: DPMS Sass failure to eject first range trip

Trust this. A gun used for accuracy and precision should not be heavily oiled or fired 30 plus rounds in a minute or Etc....... A pdw plinker combat rifle, things that are shot like yours, need lube on the BCG everywhere but the bolt face to insure proper function. I have fired over 400 rounds in 5 minutes before and never once a hiccup. This was due to a liberal saturation of CLP before the firefight started. Combat proven advice.
