I have a DPMS LR 308 that started out with a 18" bull barrel with mid gas, I sent it off and had it reprofiled, the mid gas plugged and a rifle gas drilled, it shoots much softer but now theirs not enough gas to push the bolt back far enough to strip the next round, I need some ideas on how to fix it,I was thinking about cutting a coil off one at a time until it worked, does anyone see a problem with this, using a lighter buffer?

You need to enlarge the gas port slightly. Cutting the recoil spring will only weaken the forward momentum of the carrier and result in FTL's.

lighter buffer is cheaper than a new barrell ff you open it too much. if it will lock back on 1 round loaded in the mag youshould have enough gas. make sure you have the right spring for the stock.

I bought it new, shot it with no malfs, didn't like the recoil impulse and weight, so I sent it off and had the work done, everything else is the same, I sent the smith a PM just haven't heard back yet, I don't want to do anything that will harm the barrel, its shooting 3/4 min at 200 with Prvi Partizan 168, shot it today at 600 with some 175 smk's and it was less than a min

Make sure the gas key on your bolt carrier didn't come loose. It should be staked. It sounds like it came loose. I would check that first before you do any modifications.
