Drop Tubes? Anyone make one?

Re: Drop Tubes? Anyone make one?

Just finished one, but it holds powder and doesn't drop it all. I gotta go larger on diameter. It did make a difference, but I had to pour super slow. I will up my tube diameter before taking pics.

Re: Drop Tubes? Anyone make one?

Copper tubing works well. Even better if you do a downward circular at the top, then at least 10" of straight drop, which will put all extruded powder in alinement prior to the case neck. Ball powder packs well with this also if your loading to afterburner with very slow powder.

A straight drop tube well pack better than nothing but, alining the drop allows for more go juice, if projectile speed is what your after. Faster to do a duplex or triplex powder loading, but that's a different subject altogether.

That's what I use. Hobby shots also have brass and aluminum tubes of different diameters if you want to make them caliber specific.

Re: Drop Tubes? Anyone make one?

This is what I come up with last night.

I cut down cases and slipped them over the tube. I then used a brake line flare tool and flared the ends.
Soldered the cut cases to the tube and annealed it so it would bend easily.

Because I wasn't sure it would work, I just heat shrinked the RCBS funnel to it.

Going to make one that has a larger diameter tube and maybe not such an aggressive bend to it.

I loaded a couple cases and it was quite a bit of difference.

Re: Drop Tubes? Anyone make one?

Don't flame me, but what's the point of this ?

I use a Lee funnel and it works great.

Is this some trick for getting powder to lay in the case better or something ?

Very interesting...

Re: Drop Tubes? Anyone make one?

It works better than a regular funnel for compressed loads. The powder packs itself in better, so there is less of a crunch when you seat the bullet and also less OAL deviation.

Thanks for the reply. Not trying to steal a thread here...

I didn't know that a compressed load could cause seating variations. That's very interesting. Such a wealth of knowledge and experience on here...
