Sidearms & Scatterguns Dropped Glocks for Walter PPQ- county sheriff's in Florida

Different reasons maybe or maybe they got a better deal from the Walther Rep. Walthers though have a waaay better trigger, they have a bit of a flip and the breakdown is a bit different. Glock is one of the more simpler desings, cheap to maintain, break-down, and clean. Plus in my opinion the newer Gen 5's shoot better atleast for me. I have both a Walther PPQ M1 and Glock Gen 5 19. But then again, each to his own.

Btw...this is the first time I’ve heard of any agency or PD going for a Walther striker fired handgun.

There is also another thread here where some guy is claiming his agency went for VP9s after testing with SIG P320s. Doesn’t say which one though.

Also the first I've heard of an agency that went to Walther. It's great to see other striker fired pistols being issued and I'll be interested in hearing how BCSO does with the PPQ in the next few years. Likewise it'd be interesting to see the H&K vp9 win some LE contracts.

Unless they have changed something, vp9 definitely isn’t up to duty use.

I’m a huge HK fan and have carried one on duty for almost a decade. But I wouldn’t feel comfortable with a vp9. The few I owned when they first released were night reliable in dust and dirt.

I know H&K revised the recoil spring weight after early vp9 pistols showed some issues, but I'm no expert on their rolling changes to date. Perhaps someone else might be able to fill us in.

Some guy had a post about his agency going for VP9 somewhere on some forum. Can't seem to find where I read it for the life of me. He was arguing adamantly about it. Anyways would be interesting to see these (if its even real). I personally haven't any local PDs atleast go anything beyond - Glocks, S&W, SIGs, and a few 1911s. There might be more manufacturers but atleast the ones like Waltther PPQs, and HK VP9s purchases on an agency level are new to me.

Of course, permissions to bring in / carry individual choices are permitted more often depending on the agency rules. Heck, I've heard of a recruit argue with his agency TO/WO insisting he will bring in his Hi-Point against the dept. issued Glocks ;) [The request sadly was turned down by the Chief, who was furious to say the least; would have been interesting to see if they had let him bring it ;]

while not as extensively used as the Glock and never will be, the VP9 is used by mostly overseas .mil and police units. I believe the Japs
are the latest to go to the VP. full disclosure this is off Wiki and you know how that is but I'm sure this isn't a secret.
I had a Walther Q5 and sold it as I shoot the VP9 better to be honest, but the Walther is a fine pistol.

I'll try to find out if the above three U.S. LE agencies are buying, with tax payer dollars, the HK vp as their primary sidearm.

How else would they buy them??

It appears those three are the only U.S. agencies on your list that officially issue the HK vp at taxpayer expense, and it's always nice to confirm things from Wiki. "Approved list" pistols are very often bought by the individual officers on their own dime.

Wayne Ivey is the Brevard Sheriff with a great message to all the citizens where he is the CLEO.
wish mine was like him but sadly he's not. This is a big surprise for the east coast of Florida because
its a liberal Dem. stronghold. I'm on the west coast where the Rino's keep quiet, they don't want to
spook the sheeple with a call to arms.........

While I may agree with your gut instincts some people who are very intelligent will never arm up even to protect their own lives. It is a fact millions of people would rather "hope it never happens" and wish it away than take up a gun in defense. Just think about all the people who are anti gun, this should give you a feel for how many morons as you say are out there...........
I myself applaud this Sheriff for publicly defending our 2a and promoting self defense. In this day of gun grabbing it's a breath of fresh air IMO. Look at Virginia as an example. Every body sits on their ass and lets the Dems take over and the first thing they do is want to ban guns. We need more Sheriffs like this.

Quite frankly, you are a fucking moron if you need a cop to tell you that you should carry a weapon to defend yourself.

That's like saying you should breath in order to live.
My ten year old, today, told me that the average lifespan of a human is 2-4 minutes. But, it resets every time you breathe. Surprisingly deep, even for him. Off topic for the thread, but related for your post. There's a segment of the population that must constantly remember to reset their life span...

Well the fact aside that you don’t need anyone reminding you of your 2A rights and the constitutional fuckery the clowns at the legislature are making. Atleast, these sheriffs are doing something and making their voices heard. It makes it way easier to defy those foolish ban laws if your local LE is on your side and that much more difficult if they had indeed become compliant to enforce.

So they changed pistols.

Are they easier to hide behind barriers with when there is an active shooter killing kids?
Different county, this is Brevard, the school shooting at Parkland was in Broward county, couple hours between them.

And yes the PPQ is much more ergonomic.

This wlll be a fun, if short, experiment. At least replacement glocks will still be cheap.

Seeing this kind of statement is unfortunate. Kind of an ironic statement coming from Florida, which will be at the same crossroads in a couple years. Demographic trends carry a momentum that is hard to overcome. Remember Virginia was saying the same thing you just did, but about Maryland, only a few years ago.

How is it ironic?? Florida is STILL a Republican controlled state despite the antigunners trying to infringe on the 2a. Virginia is now fully controlled by the Dims. ALL states are and always will be at risk of subversion by the leftwing liberals Democrats who want to infringe on your rights. The country is being infected by sheeple fleeing high tax states only to turn formerly red states purple and eventually blue if this is not curtailed.

Many cities and counties in Florida recently filed lawsuits trying to subvert the right of the State to make laws that punish any local government including individuals that infringe on the State's right to make and enforce constitutional laws concerning firearms, concealed weapons etc. This would lead to a ridiculous infringement not to mention every city, county and municipality who wants to make their own rules you would never know if you were in violation or not.

Yes Florida is under attack, but we still have hope of defeating the left. Virginia has lost for now and may take years if they ever hope to recover. The saving grace is the grass roots uprising against the tyranny being played out there.........

We've got Grady Judd over here on our side.
There are other Sheriff's around our parts that think the same way, but they aren't vocal about it like Grady.

I have a Walther PPQ M1 and a HK VP9 as two of my Home Defense weapons. Both have TLR-2HlG's on them and are very similar. Not my first of either and I have had 0 issues over the years.

Which trigger do you like the best? The VP9 is miles better than STOCK LEM. That said I’ve heard the PPQ blows the VP9 away. Curious as I’m only interested (slightly) I’m getting the M1. No buttons for me thank you.

They feel VERY similar to me. But, I'd give the PPQ trigger a slight edge. Wouldn't even realize it if I didn't have bother for a side by side comparison. Similar Mag Releases, but the HK has the slight advantage there, IMO.

I'd have thought the mag release would have been PPQ M1 with it being bigger. is it the way it moves or something? Nobody in my area carries these and they're getting hard to find online too.

So much of this is politics and price. Lots of departments change. Ones here still use Glock and the officers I know swear buy them. However I hate Glock Triggers. I have a Taran G34 and they tuned the trigger to a nice 2.5 lbs break for my Gen 3. Best Glock trigger. I love the PPQ trigger but the HK VP9 is a bit better IMO.
