my second deer :)

lacked some height and mass in his rack so didnt score all that well, hes a looker though. i would have left him but our place is small and low fenced and most of our neighboors shoot every deer they see, im surprised he made it this long this season.

i posted a bunch of pictures of him on here for ppl to try to age him for me. i got from 4.5-6.5 but some buddies aged him and thought he was 3.5 or 4.5

didn't weight him, should have though. grossed 127, i thought he was a 150 class buck from my trail cam pictures. he lacked mass and height and that killed his score. he wouldn't have made it through the season for next year the way our neighbors hunt though

Seeing him in in color now i would say 3.5 is about right. He is a beauty and would look great on the wall with those drop tines. congrats

Nice deer. Love the rack with the drop tines. But sorry to ask this but how do the teeth and jaw bone look compared to different aged deer? Reason I ask is I never understand how to age a deer.

the teeth of whitetail wear down with age, basically sharper teeth are on younger deer. theres more to it but thats the basics. the teeth wear down and at a certain age the deer cant chew up food as well and starts deteriorating in terms of health and rack. theres a peak time in a whitetails life when theyre rack will be the best and thats when you want to bag them.

im taking him to the taxidermist tomorrow morning ill ask if i can keep the jawbone. this was im mills county in central tx
