I never have any hesitation to dry fire my bolt guns. I've been doing the same with my AR. But I recently saw a dry fire device in the Sinclair catalog made for AR's. Worth the money, or should I just keep dry firing away?

Well if you don't hear that "click" then how do you know if your rifle works or not? Dry fire your AR until your heart is content.

Firing pin will eventually crack into two pieces.
May take 20k or so to get there.
I have a pitted FP I dry fire with, when it cracks, no biggie.
Dry firing is way too important, even if FP's were $100, I'd do it.

Dry firing is imparative to muscle memory and trigger manipulation. I can't speak for others but when I was in boot we probably dry fired at least 1000 time before we ever sent a round down range. These were rifles assigned to MCRD and probably had many many cycles before me. Not a single firing pin issue during training or qual. Giver hell

Yeah, my basic M-16 was so worn out you could disassemble it just by shaking it. Probably was dry fired hundreds of thousands of times. You could slip an ID card between the upper & lower... yet I shot expert 38 out of 40 for my first qualification.

and don't forget the spontaneous combustion of of the plastic forearm due to the sustained full auto fire......
