Sorry if this has been covered, but what options are there in a dual purpose (close quarters to 800 meters) scope out there? I have read about the 1-8 S&B short dot, which seems to fit the bill, and the new Leupold Mark8. The Leupold needs a reflex sight added at a 45 degree angle it seems in order to get close in, two eyes open usage however. The SB has a red dot ability for CQ which is what I really want, and the mil-dot reticle in the FFP is also what I want for medium/long range. Is there anything else out there similar to the SB short dot that I'm missing?

Re: Dual purpose scope

IOR 1-10x26 Eliminator. Mil based "Christmas tree" reticle, which is better than a regular mildot because you can use it as a BDC reticle if you want to just shoulder the rifle and take a quick shot.

Liberty Optics has a lot of pics and info about it.

Re: Dual purpose scope

Thanks bud. This is the kind of option I am looking for. Is there anything else on the market similar to this and the SB short dot? I wish I could get my hands on both of them to check them out. I'm mostly curious how the red dot works, and if they "float" like a holographic sight, or if they are "fixed" at the crosshairs.

From all the reports we've heard posted so far about the IOR is that the red-dot CQB reticle is not Aimpoint bright - it works nicely in low light, but isn't really bright enough for bright daylight use. I think IOR are working to resolve this, but I haven't heard any updates for a while now.
