Rifle Scopes Dud IOR Terminator?

If Midway will let you return it, then I would do that. Get a refund if you can. Even if just for credit, take the 2600 or so they have it for and get you an ATACR or a Razor Gen II. There are companies with better reputations out there for any repairs when something goes wrong. Valdada has a bad rep here because of a lack of of customer service when something goes wrong. I considered one back in 2013 and found this place while looking for reviews and decided to look at other options. So, no harsh comments from me, but IOR has that stigma amongst users who don't baby their gear. Good luck to you.

If you can get an ATACR or S&B for what you paid for that, do it now. I see where you sent it back. And yeah, USO is good and their prices are usually a little better, I ended up somehow with 3 of 'em plus a spotter. Lots of good deals used here in the PX too.

All IOR's in the 35 and 40mm tubes have this issue. Richard Utting, one of IOR's biggest fans, talks about it in a few videos he has. IOR used to sell a rubber eye cup that apparently was the solution to the problem. It also solved the problem of the eye ring falling off all the time.

Tons of internal reflections and not efficient blacking in my opinion, every scope I have ever looked through has these issues. In some European shooting magazines they have some way to rate this and talk about it.

Brute force optical engineering usually has some consequences.

Fast forward to 4:00 minutes in the video.

That's interesting. I had the scope mounted on my savage 338 Lapua and found the eye relief was tight enough that under recoil the scope was stopping just shy of tagging me--putting an "ocular shade" on strikes me as effectively shortening your eye relief/free recoil?

All the rubber eyeshield does is make it so reflections are less of a problem. Light coming in from the ocular tends to produce reflections off the ocular and your eye, especially when the rear element is concave. Eliminate that light source and it seems to go away.

The eyecup should touch or come close to touching your face, and then just deform during firing. It just bounces off my shooting glasses. I have the same scope Utting talks about, the 9-36x56mm. If I remember correctly the Recon also has a concave ocular, but I can't remember.

I don't know if the Terminator has a concave ocular, does it? When you see the reflections of your eyeball, does it help if you cup your hand between the end of the scope and your face?

Gene wasn't a character to be easily forgotten.
No he was not. I remember when I first met him, then a few years later I sent ASM1 (here long ago) down to get under Genes wing for his first match. He came in 3rd in ATG an his ass was hooked. Gene did a great job of spotting for Frankie. Laughing, I recall when he had the 7mm built an the smith marked it wrong, every time someone would rub him about it it was game on.

He was all about Sightrons though to the point I wondered if he was holding stock in them or was on the payroll. If you remember R. MacAbee when he was having all the trouble with the 3 S&B's he bought, I would throw out he should trade them all for Sightron's an he would come back Gene, Gene, is that you! Laughing,....

I do miss Gene, Will an others that fucking Cancer got, an were on here long ago.
You still shoot H/R? Been a while for me,...

The reflection would be there no matter what I did--including wearing a hat or shading the objective or ocular--whenever the ambient light around the target dropped beyond midday sunlight brightness--though it varied in degrees depending upon the light/shade percentage. The ocular lens itself did appear be concave (later edit, sorry). The eye relief on the terminator seems to me noticeably shorter than that of my Nightforce--and coupled with the fact that is also noticeably heavier than a Nightforce that's something that gives me pause for thought when the rifle recoils under a stout 338 Lapua load.

Keep in mind I made it clear in the beginning that I'm complete novice with these "tier 1" type scopes, so I'm not trying to suggest the scope is "pure garbage"--just that I didn't find I could get past several issues to make me comfortable with relying on it. If the same scope had no or minimal issues with the eye reflection and made a version without the huge illumination housing in place of a side focus for parallax, and put an easy-to-use side focus back there--it would be a spectacular scope IMO and I would instead be thinking about buying another.

Been awhile for me, I ended up working over in Texas for a few years then retired and moved back home so hopefully I'll be making the next match or so provided I can get my sh@t together in time. Back then Gene wasn't the only character at the HR.

Where is Phillip?

Hi,

He is trying to figure out how to say that all scopes shit the bed every now and then, while glamorizing that is what warranties are for...
OR
He could be at a lose for words so he trying to pass math test..

Guess I am one of the lucky ones. I've had a Recon for 6 years and not had a problem with it. I have put over 1000 rounds through my Savage in 260 Rem. shooting from 100 yds. out to 1760. Also have the 6-24x56 on a 6.5x47 I love them both. I have never seen my eye reflection in either. Great glass also.
