Sup fellas,

Just a quick question, Ive got a JP 22" Grendel barrel I want to build a gun around. Problem is its SS and I want it in black, so I figure I'll have it cerakoted.

For those of you who have cerakoted their AR barrels before, is it bad to cerakote the gas block area? Obviously I would have the hole plugged, but ive seen people tape off the entire gas block journal area.
Is it because gas blocks can get hotter than what cerakote can handle?
Is it bad to have cerakote between the barrel and the gas block?

I just dont know whether to tell my applicator to just plug the hole up, or to try and tape off the whole section where the gas block will go, and hope that I dont wind up with cerakote halfway under the block, or a sliver of shiny SS exposed near the block.

It is a clamp-on block so im not too worried about dimentional changes, seeing as how it should fit either way.

What did yall do?

Send it to these folks & get it coated in DLC instead. http://www.jabuie.com/ionbond.html

Ahaha yes I had my TL3 action done by them. Never a barrel though, does it go inside of the bore, or do they plug it up so it only coats the outside?

Edit: I called them, they said they minimize how much gets to the bore, though it doesnt really change anything if it does.
However their lead time is about 5 weeks, 7 to 8 including shipping, while cerakote I could have done in two days. Ordinarily i'd get the cerakote done now and be on the range asap, but seeing as how I cant find any Grendel ammo anyways... Might not be a bad idea get the DLC.
