I'm so anal, can't belive I worry about this stuff. My question is. I usually clean my rifles after every shooting session. When hunting season comes, I set my zero and don't touch the bore till the season is over, unless of course I get it rained on, mud, etc. Is it okay to leave it fouled for 4 months without any bore cleaning?

Thanks in advance for your valued opinions.

Re: Dumb question on fouled barrel

Do it all the time. The only time I clean my tube is when I get crap inside it.

On my hunting sticks I will clean them post season (Feb or their abouts) and foul them in August with 40 - 100 rnds (when the accuracy comes back, it varies)and leave them. POA / POI are very consistent.

On my match guns I go 600 ish rounds before cleaning but they get used more so a full cleaning happens two or three times a year.

Cheers,

Doc

Re: Dumb question on fouled barrel

I thoroughly clean when accuracy falls off. I keep a boresnake with me for those times I encounter rain or have a concern with possible debris in tube. I also use the boresnake to remove any residue after a weekend of shooting/hunting. BTW, I downsize the boresnake for these purposes, since I'm not cleaning with it.

Buzzsaw, I'm crying too . . .

doc...if stainless I'd be less concerned that chrome-moly. Those rust pretty fast down here. A little wipe through with Hoppes #9 leaves a tiny bit of anti-rust in the bore. Doesn't seem to affect my hunting accuracy. JMHO
